Mark Philippoussis v Andy Roddick: First Meeting
The Centre Court offers some high octane combat with Roddick,
who has won the Stella Artois title for the past two years,
taking on the 1997 champion Philippoussis. Both men know what
it is like to finish runner-up at Wimbledon to Roger
Federer-Philippoussis in 2003 and Roddick last year-but by
no means have they given up the hunt. Today marks the first
meeting between the Texas-based second seed Roddick, 22, and
the Miami-based Australian Philippoussis, 28, who had a wild
card entry into the tournament. Philippoussis was encouraged
by that gesture after a series of injury problems and he
claims that he has done "everything I possibly can in my
control" to work on his fitness during enforced absences.
Roddick has also had some injury concerns and will be delighted
to be back on grass after losing in the first round of the
French Open.
Verdict: Roddick to look for a hard-serving win
