05/14/2006 6:55 PM ET Bonds held in check as Giants fall to LA Reliever Kline's throwing error proves costly in series finale By Rich Draper / MLB.com SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants reliever Steve Kline allowed three runs in the eighth inning -- two on a throwing error -- as the Los Angeles Dodgers topped the San Francisco Giants, 6-3, Sunday at AT&T Park. Kline's hurried throw to Omar Vizquel at third on Kenny Lofton's bunt bounced off the infielder's glove, sending Ramon Martinez and Rafael Furcal home, breaking a 2-2 tie. Giants starter Jason Schmidt allowed only three hits and two runs over seven innings. Lofton singled and scored on a sac fly in the fourth, while Jeff Kent hit a solo homer in the sixth. Furcal added an RBI single off Scott Munter in the ninth. Steve Finley's first-inning forceout sent Randy Winn home for the Giants' initial run, then Pedro Feliz doubled in the seventh and scored on Mike Matheny's two-bagger. Ray Durham hit a solo home run to lead off the ninth. Barry Bonds went 0-for-2 with two walks and remains one home run short of Babe Ruth's career total of 714. Rich Draper is a reporter for MLB.com.
