Mendieta debt solved

Lazio look to have averted legal action by Valencia after reaching an agreement
over the Gaizka Mendieta debt.
The Italians bought the midfielder last summer from the Mestalla outfit for
￡29m but have failed to keep up with the payment schedule.
Earlier this month the Spanish champions threatened legal proceedings if the
Biancocelesti failed to pay the ￡7m still owed.
Reports suggest that the Stadio Olimpico giants – currently in the midst of
a financial crisis – have reached an understanding with Valencia.
However, Manchester United have also threatened the Italians with similar
judicial action over the money still owed to them regarding Jaap Stam’s
transfer.
Mendieta is currently on loan in Spain with Barcelona but could soon be on
his way back to Italy.
Latest speculation suggests that if Lazio decide to sell either Dejan Stankovic
or Stefano Fiore in January, then Mendieta could be recalled for the rest of
the campaign.
The midfielder has been struggling for form at the Nou Camp but other reports
suggest that Inter are assessing whether to make a bid for the 28-year-old
next summer.
