Speaking to his official website, Jaap Stam explains his feelings after the
2-2 draw away against Milan and the expectations ahead of the UEFA Cup match
on Thursday.
"It is not often, if ever, that you go a place like Milan and come away
feeling disappointed not to have taken all three points but that was exactly
the feeling we experienced after our 2-2 draw this weekend. Of course, we
would have welcomed a share of the points before the game but after going two
goals ahead in the first-half, we feel we should have held on for the victory.
But it was not to be. In fairness, AC Milan put us under great pressure in
the second-half and perhaps, in the end, we should be happy with the draw.
The result means we have now drawn our last three Serie A games and while
this run is not disastrous by any means, things will have to change if we are
to maintain our challenge for the title. We are now six points behind the
leaders Juventus and although there is still time, we need to convert these
draws into victories.
I don't feel we have been playing badly in our recent games but we have not
taken our chances in front of goal and this has cost us and is something we
must improve on Thursday night when we face Wisla Krakow in the UEFA Cup. The
first leg is in Rome and it is vital we establish an advantage before the
away game.
I know little about Wisla at this stage but I do know they beat Schalke 4-1
in Germany in the previous round. Any team that goes to Germany and wins by
that margin deserves respect and that is why it is vital we do not
underestimate them."
