Roberto Mancini's Lazio side are worried about playing in Turkey with war set
to break out in neighbouring Iraq.
"We are slightly concerned because we will be playing football just 1500km
from a war zone," said the Olimpico tactician.
"However, we have to agree with what UEFA are saying and we will get on with
the game in hand. We'll just look to wrap up qualification."
The capital giants flew out to Istanbul today as they take on Besiktas in the
second leg of the UEFA Cup quarter final on Thursday.
Lazio are in pole position for the semi-finals after last week's 1-0 win in
Rome but the goalscorer, Simone Inzaghi, is out of the return clash.
The Italian is not included in the 22-man squad because of illness which
leaves Mancio short of attacking options as Bernardo Corradi is cup-tied.
Meanwhile, the threat of war has also led Italian state broadcasters Rai to
take the surprising step of abandoning plans to show the game live.
"We don't think it is ethically right to show football under the
circumstances," said Rai-Sport’s Michele Giammarioli.
"The city of Istanbul could become a theatre of war. There is the possibility
that the game could be played while fighter planes fly over the stadium."
An explanation that didn't meet with the approval of Mancini. "From a morale
point of view I think they should have cancelled other programmes in their
schedule," stated the Samp legend.

The UEFA Cup quarter final, second leg, between Besiktas and Lazio is likely
to not be shown on Italian TV. The incredible news were rumored already
yesterday and today RAI, the Italian state television confirmed that they will
probably not buy the rights.
La7, another Italian TV channel, could buy the rights but are worried that if
the war brakes out, they would of course have to show the news instead of the
match.
