Roberto Mancini is looking to lift the UEFA Cup, Coppa Italia and fourth C
hampions' League spot during the next four weeks.
“Starting from today,” noted the Lazio boss, “we are going into a tour de
force represented by seven games that will decide our season. I remain
optimistic, an aspect of management taught to me by Sven Goran Eriksson.”
Mancini was a player during Eriksson's reign at Sampdoria and Lazio, but more
importantly was picked as assistant manager during his final season at the
club.
The pupil is certainly living up to expectations as Lazio have been one of
the surprise packages of the campaign so far.
“Looking at the quality of our performances we should be up there with
Juventus, Inter and Milan,” insists Mancini, “but unfortunately there were
a few slip-ups along the way.”
Even that fourth place is under threat following Parma's 1-0 win over Milan
on Saturday evening.
“It all depends on us as we have the upper hand. If we get the results then
that position in Europe’s elite will be ours.”
The Biancocelesti must take on Como at the Stadio Olimpico this afternoon,
then Porto in the UEFA Cup Semi-Final, Modena, Piacenza, Inter, Juventus,
Bologna and the Coppa Italia Semi-Final against Roma.
“We must be wary of seeing Como as an easy three points,” warns the Coach, ꄊas those teams with nothing left to lose can often be the most dangerous."
"The bottom club also has some very talented players who want to make their
mark.”
