Lazio need a miracle, says Mihajlovic
ROME, April 11 (Reuters) - Lazio's Sinisa Mihajlovic has slated his
team after a 4-1 defeat by Porto in the UEFA Cup semi-final first leg
left their final hopes in tatters.
'You can lose, but not like that. We were awful,' Mihajlovic was quoted
as saying in Corriere dello Sport on Friday. 'Now we need a miracle to
reach the final in Seville. We'll have to score as early as possible
(in the return leg in Rome) to stand any chance at all.'
Argentine striker Claudio Lopez had put the Italian side ahead in the
sixth minute, but after Maniche Ribeiro's equaliser Porto dominated the
match.
Afterwards, Lazio coach Roberto Mancini admitted his side had played
their worst match of the season.
'We've never been dominated so comprehensively at any time this year,'
he said. 'We went ahead early thanks to a great move. I just don't
understand why, after that goal, the team retreated so much.
'We gave Porto too much space. That gave them courage. They pushed us
back and you see the result. To get to the final we'll need the crowd
behind us (in the return leg).
'With a full Olympic Stadium we'll have a slightly better chance of
pulling ourselves back into the game.'
