Serie A Report: Super Lazio Win Big At Udine
High-flying Lazio obtained their 7th consecutive victory with an impressive
4-2 win at Udine.
Udinese played with a 3-5-2 system with Barreto and Di Natale upfront.
Meanwhile Lazio played with a 4-3-1-2 system with Mauri behind Pandev and
Rocchi.
In a rather drab first half, Lazio opened the score in the 18th minute thanks
to defender Stendardo, who headed in a free kick by Ledesma.
In the 26th minute Peruzzi had to be careful on a header by midfielder Sivok
which he just managed to tip over the bar. There were no more major chances
in the first half.
Early in the second half in-form Lazio stepped up a gear and scored two quick
goals to seal the victory. First midfielder Mauri picked up another free kick
by Ledesma and scored from close range, then a minute later Behrami beat the
Sanctis converting a cross by Rocchi to make it 3-0 in the 51st minute.
A few minutes after that Udinese got a consolation goal when a penalty was
awarded for a handball by Zauri. The spot kick was converted by Di Natale
(58’). But just a minute after that there was another penalty, this time for
Lazio, when Zapotocny fouled Rocchi inside the area (59’). Rocchi himself
converted the penalty to make it 4-1.
In the 75th minute Lazio had another chance through Pandev, but when alone
in front of De Sanctis he allowed the goalkeeper to come out and kick the
ball away.
Nine minutes before the end, Udinese’s midfielder D’Agostino was sent off
for a bad foul, and the home side managed another goal in injury time through
Iaquinta to make it 4-2.
After this result Lazio maintain their third place in the standings with 52
points, while Udinese are 9th with 35 points.
