Zarate sets 10-day Lazio deadline
Mauro Zarate’s agent has warned “it is not certain he will remain at Lazio”
and the club has 10 days to complete its ￡18m buy or open up to other
offers.
President Claudio Lotito had announced he agreed a deal to make the loan move
from Al-Sadd permanent earlier this month, but it seems the situation is
still up in the air.
“I am waiting for the phone call, Lotito needs to tell me within June 30
that he has completed the contract,” said Sergio Zarate.
“We had given him the deadline of April 30 to speak to the Arab club and
find an agreement. That did not happen, so we have to go through the buy-out
clause to release him from Al-Sadd.
“In the next 10 days, President Lotito has to send the money and I will only
be relaxed after the cash has gone to Al-Sadd.
“Seeing as there is no money yet, I cannot possibly be relaxed. I have no
certainty that Lotito will buy out the contract.”
Zarate is transfer hot property after scoring 13 goals in his debut Serie A
season and breaking into the Argentina squad.
“I am not worried about the future,” added the agent. “If Mauro does not
stay at Lazio, then he will go elsewhere and is certainly not lacking offers.
“Mauro would be very happy to remain and we talked about a five-year
contract, but it all depends on Lotito. If he doesn’t complete the buy-out,
we have another four or five clubs waiting for news from Italy, Spain and
England.
“If Lazio don’t pay up, then it certainly would not be our problem.”
