Sixers show interest in McCarty
Add Walter McCarty to the list of veteran free agents contacted
by the 76ers.
The 6-10 McCarty, 31, finished last season with Phoenix after
seven-plus seasons in Boston.
"They've called, and there is interest, but like a lot of teams
they're waiting to see which players might become available through
amnesty," said Michael Higgins, McCarty's agent.
Billy King, the Sixers' president/general manager, confirmed the contact.
The amnesty clause provides a onetime opportunity by Aug. 15 for a team
to waive a player and avoid paying a luxury tax on the player's contract.
The player would be paid the full value of the contract, and it would
continue to count against the team's salary cap.
A first-round draft choice of New York in 1996, McCarty holds career
averages of 5.3 points and 2.7 rebounds. He is regarded as a helpful
defender, three-point shooter and team-oriented player.
The Boston Herald reported that McCarty had narrowed his choices to
the Sixers, Dallas and Houston, but Higgins says there are other teams
involved, including San Antonio.
"He's got young legs and still has some gas in the tank," Higgins said.
"He's a great veteran, a classy individual, a team guy."
Portland yesterday became the first team to use the amnesty clause,
designating Derek Anderson and about $19 million remaining on his deal.

小弟英文能力不是很好
應該是說我們76,小牛,火箭,馬刺對McCarty有興趣吧!
我覺得McCarty也蠻不錯的
年紀雖大了點,但感覺跟R.Rogers蠻像的
打大前鋒又會砍三分,而且比R.Rogers年輕些
ps.其實我也有點希望D.Anderson來76人說,呵呵...
