DETROIT - Sixers forward Chris Webber was ordered to pay a $100,000 fine
yesterday, nearly 2 years after he pleaded guilty to a federal criminal
contempt charge in the University of Michigan booster scandal.
底特律訊 - 七六人前鋒Chris Webber於昨日接獲法院命令，被判處美金十萬元罰
金。自於密西根大學非法拉攏學生球員醜聞案中，承認藐視法庭罪名起，前後已
相隔近兩年。
U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmunds fined Webber the maximum allowed after she
ruled that Webber's conviction should be treated as a misdemeanor rather than
a felony, the U.S. Attorney's office said.
美國檢察署表示，地方法院法官Nancy Edmunds首先判定Webber之罪名應屬「行為不檢」
而非「重罪」，接著決定以最高罰金作為懲處。
The judge also noted Webber's completion of 330 hours of community service
and out-of-pocket expenses of more than $78,000.
法官並認可Webber已完成三百三十小時之社區服務並自付美金七萬八千元之相關
費用。
In September 2003, Edmunds ordered Webber to perform 300 hours of the
community service over the next two summers as a condition of his bond,
saying she would decide whether to treat the crime as a felony or a
misdemeanor in 2 years.
2003年9月，Edmunds法官判處Webber於其後兩年之夏季從事三百小時之社區服務，
以做為其交保條件，並表示將於兩年後決定該罪行應屬「重罪」或「行為不檢」。
"I believe there is a reason and purpose for everything in life and if this
situation allowed me the privilege to have my life intersect with the lives
of the children I worked with these past two summers, [then] it was worth
every moment," Webber said in a statement on his Web site.
「我相信生命中的一切自有其原因和目的，如果這個事件讓我有榮幸在生命中與
過去兩個夏天裡認識的孩子們交會，[那麼]每分每秒都是值得的。」Webber於其
官方網站www.chriswebber.com中發表上述聲明。
Webber pleaded guilty to the criminal contempt charge in July 2003, a day
before jury selection was scheduled to start for his trial on a perjury
charge.
2003年7月，負責聽審其偽證罪狀之陪審團預計成立的前一日，Webber針對其
藐視法庭之指控承認有罪。
Webber and his father, Mayce Webber Jr., were accused of lying about money
authorities say the player received from ex-booster Ed Martin. The maximum
penalty would have been 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The charges
against Mayce were dropped.
Webber及其父親Mayce Webber Jr.因就有關單位指出前大學說客Ed Martin向球
員給付金錢一事說謊而遭到起訴。原最高刑責可達五年有期徒刑及美金二十五
萬元之罰金。向Mayce所提起之訴訟已經撤銷。
