DENVER - This is about the story behind the story. The story is that the 76ers
began a six-game Western swing last night with an emotional, 108-106 victory
over the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center. The story is that Allen Iverson
knocked down a game-winning 20-foot jump shot with 4.2 seconds left.

故事之中另有情節。故事是說七六人隊昨晚以108比106在Pepsi Center擊敗
金塊，以一場激情的的勝利開啟西區六場征戰之旅。故事結局則是Allen Iverson
在最後4.2秒投進20呎的跳投。

The story is that Chris Webber put together a performance of 32 points, 15
rebounds and seven assists, that Iverson - despite spraining his right ankle
early in the third quarter - slashed his way to 36 points, 10 assists and five
steals, that Kyle Korver drained four three-pointers on his way to 18 points.

其中包括Chris Webber總共拿下32分、15籃板、7助攻；Iverson雖然在第三節

cushion as the Sixers prepare to play tonight in Portland, where Cheeks coached

With the score tied at 106, the Sixers called a timeout to devise one last
play.

"I asked Allen if he wanted to do a pick-and-roll; he said, 'Do whatever you
want,' " Webber said. "I heard Andre Miller [the Nuggets point guard] say,
'I got him. Don't switch.' I said, 'He's about to put you in the meat grinder.
' You don't say that to Allen. You only get him [hyped] even more. When he
took the shot, I didn't try to rebound. I knew it [was going in]. I always know
it, but this time I really did. Young players should shut their mouths in those
situations."

「我問Allen是否要做個擋切，他說『你想怎麼做，就去做吧』，Webber說：「我

This was, to coin a word, Iversonesque.

"I thought I got a pretty good look," he said. "He [Miller] still had a hand

This was the most outward emotion the Sixers have shown all season. For much
of the game, the bench players were periodically on their feet, encouraging
their teammates. Down the stretch, it was standing room only.

They survived a career-high 45 points by the Nuggets' Carmelo Anthony, not to

The Nuggets had one last gasp. Coming out of a timeout, they spread the floor
with five shooters, with an obvious plan to try and get the ball to Anthony,
who had already knocked down 17 of 30 shots and was 3-for-4 in the fourth
quarter. Instead, the ball was swung to Earl Watson, who had been 5-for-10 to
that point, including three of eight triples.

Cheeks said the strategy down the stretch was to try to keep the ball out of

loss to the Hawks, questioning the Sixers' functioning as a team, banding
together.

"This is a long trip," Salmons said last night. "We have to play as if all we
have are each other - us against the world."

The attitude of the bench reflected that.

"That's the most emotion I've seen since I've been here," Matt Barnes said.

one of the best ever at that."

two wide-open shots at the end [both by Watson]," Karl said.

The Nuggets also played without injured power forward Kenyon Martin and all

rebounder, who aggravated an already injured right hand.

"We rely on Marcus too much to rebound," Karl said. "Their gas tank was a
