TUALAITN, Ore. - When he took over as head coach of the 76ers, Maurice Cheeks
received quite a bit of information about his new team, some concerning the
ability of Chris Webber to play in games on back-to-back nights.

當Maurice Cheeks接掌七六人總教練的時候，他收到很多關於他新球隊的資訊；
其中有一些是關心Chris Webber在back-to-back比賽的作戰能力。

The intelligence suggested that Webber couldn't go hard in the second game
because his surgically repaired left knee just didn't allow him to do so, or
to jump as well as in the previous contest.

Though the statistics show that his production does slip a little bit from the
first night to the second night of back-to-back games, Webber, 32 and in his
13th NBA season, has shown Cheeks that he can sustain his energy and output.

"I'm surprised, just based on what people had said to me about his ability to

yesterday after running most of the Sixers through a light workout at Club
Sport, a fitness center in this Portland suburb.

"Certainly, back-to-back games can be bothersome to a lot of people, not just
older guys but it could be younger guys. But I think Chris has gotten stronger
as games have been going on. Based on what I had heard coming in, he wasn't
going to be able to play as many minutes, and I had to take that into account."

The Sixers have played on back-to-back nights eight times this season, the
latest Tuesday and Wednesday when they split games at Denver and Portland.

On the first night of this series, Webber is shooting 48.5 percent from the
field and averaging 23.1 points, 12.1 rebounds and four assists. The numbers
are 42.7 percent shooting, 18.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists on the
second night.

這些back-to-back系列戰中Webber第一場的命中率48.5%，平均拿下23.1分、

Webber had one of his best games of the season at Denver, putting up 32 points,
15 rebounds and seven assists. He followed that with 11 points and 11 rebounds
at Portland, a game that included a scoreless second half on 0-for-7 shooting,
in the Sixers' 95-91 loss.

在丹佛的那場比賽是本季Webber表現最好的比賽之ㄧ，拿下32分、15籃板、7助攻。

Cheeks shouldered the blame for Webber's off-night against the Trail Blazers,
saying he should have given him a rest in the second half instead of keeping
him on the floor for all 24 minutes.

Cheeks替Webber在波特蘭的失常擔下所有的指責，說他下半場應該要給Webber
一些休息的時間，而不是讓他打滿24分鐘。

"I should have rested him a little bit more," the coach said, "and then come
back with him a little later in the fourth quarter down the stretch, when he'd
be a little stronger... . I've got to be a little smarter in determining
whether to bring him out and then put him back in the game."

教練說：「我應該要讓他多休息一下，讓他在比賽後段上場，這樣他可以有比較
好的表現。對於決定哪時候要讓他休息、哪時候讓他回到場上、我必須更聰明些」。

Webber, who was excused from yesterday's practice along with Allen Iverson, has
played in all 29 of the Sixers' games. His average of 40.2 minutes is the
fifth-best in the NBA.

昨天與Allen Iverson的練習中缺席的Webber，目前已經為七六人打了所有的
29場比賽，平均上場40.2分鐘是聯盟第五高。

Webber credits a rigorous off-season training program with strengthening his
knee. He lost weight to improve his jumping and his stamina. The work has
helped his conditioning and his numbers - 19.6 points and 10.2 rebounds per
game, statistics good enough to warrant all-star consideration.

Webber把這些歸功於賽季前，針對加強膝蓋所做的嚴格訓練。他減重來增加他
的跳躍力和體力，這些訓練幫助他保有好的體能狀態，還有數據表現。

"There are a lot of names, and Chris is one of them by the way he's played,"
Cheeks said. "When you think about all-stars, you've got to go to the
statistics, and if you go by that, his are right up there with the rest of
them."

In NBA all-star voting returns released yesterday, Webber ranks fourth among
Eastern Conference forwards behind LeBron James, Jermaine O'Neal and Rasheed
Wallace. After starters for the All-Star Game are announced on Feb. 2, head
coaches will vote to determine the remainder of the roster.

昨天NBA明星賽公佈票選名單Webber在東區前鋒居第四名，落後LeBron James、
Jermaine O'Neal和RasheedWallace。二月二日公佈先發名單之後，總教練將投票
決定陣容其他的人選。

Webber's second-half shooting against the Trail Blazers indicated some fatigue.
The arc of his shots was flatter than usual, and most of his misses came off
the front of the rim. But he didn't want to blame fatigue.

與拓荒者的比賽下半場，Webber的投籃顯示出一些疲憊。他在弧頂的投籃弧度
比平常還低，他大部分的失手都是打到籃框前緣，但是他不想歸咎於疲勞。

"I can't blame anything on fatigue," he said after the game. "I felt real good.
The shots just weren't falling for me."

Cheeks said most players will tell a coach that they are not tired but Webber
communicates to him when it would be a good time to give him a short rest.

"Chris will say, 'Give me a couple of minutes at this point' or 'Give me a

back in the game."

Cheeks表示：「Chris會說『這時候讓我在打一下』，『那時候再讓我打一下』，
這是非常有幫助的，對於哪時候要放他在場下、讓他喘口氣、或是讓他回到場上，
我必須做的更好」。

Notes. Iverson, who played all 48 minutes Wednesday on a sprained right ankle,
leads Eastern Conference guards with more than 1.14 million votes. Voting
continues through Jan. 22. ... The Sixers will return to the same practice
facility today before flying to Salt Lake City for a New Year's Eve date
against the Utah Jazz.

Note：Iverson明星賽票選以114萬在東區後衛領先，票選將持續到1月22號。
他在禮拜三的比賽中扭傷右腳踝仍打滿全場。七六人在新年夜飛到鹽湖城
對上爵士之前，今天也將在同樣的場館練習。
