SACRAMENTO - This will be his second time back in Sacramento with the 76ers. He
will have some friends and family in the Arco Arena stands tonight. He will see
lots of familiar faces, maybe even recall some nice nights on the court.

No, no, not Chris Webber.

Matt Barnes, who grew up in Sacramento, worked as a Kings ballboy and later
starred at his hometown Del Campo High.

在沙加緬度長大的Matt Barnes，原本是當國王隊的球童，接著便在家鄉的
Del Campo高中發光發熱。

At least Webber has been a Sixer all along, since the now-famous trade of
Feb. 23, 2005, when the Sixers acquired Webber, Barnes and Michael Bradley from
the Sacramento Kings for Kenny Thomas, Brian Skinner and Corliss Williamson.
Barnes dressed for four of a possible 28 games last season, then was allowed to
leave in free agency. He signed with the New York Knicks, was a starting
forward on opening day, appeared in six games, even started five, then was
summarily waived Dec. 3. He was back with the Sixers on Dec. 9.

至少Webber從2005年2月23號的大交易以來，就一直待在七六人隊。那時候
七六人用Kenny Thomas、Brian Skinner和Corliss Williamson，向國王隊
交易來Webber、Barnes以及Michael Bradley。Barnes在上季剩下28場裡為
七六人打了4場球。本季成為自由球員之後加入紐約尼克隊，開幕戰擔任先
發前鋒；打了6場比賽，5次先發上場。然後12月3號被尼克隊揮棄，12月9號
再度與七六人簽約。

This time, he's getting spot minutes in critical defensive situations

"He's been great for us,'' Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks said. "Every time we've
inserted him in a game, he's been great for us. Sometimes, he wouldn't play for
a whole half and then we'd throw him in in the third and fourth quarters. Every
time we've played him, he's made major contributions.''

七六人教練Maurice Cheeks說：「他對我們來說很重要，每次我們把他放在
場上，對我們來說他就很重要。有時候他不會打整個半場，所以我們在第三
節和第四節會讓他上場，每次他上場比賽總是會有重大貢獻」。

Barnes isn't going to dazzle anyone with his offensive skills, but that's not
why Sixers president/general manager Billy King wanted him included in last
February's deal; he knew Barnes, from UCLA, had a reputation as a defender. In
the meantime, though, Barnes invested some time with shooting instructors and
has at least improved in that area; overall, he's shooting 45.2 percent from
the floor this season, including making 8 of 12 as a Sixer. He's averaging 2.0
points and 1.3 rebounds overall.

Barnes並沒有讓對手目眩神迷的得分技巧，因為這不是經理Billy King把他
列在去年2月的交易名單中的原因；他知道來自UCLA的Barnes有著很好的防守

"I had seen him play for Sacramento,'' said Cheeks, who spent three seasons-
plus coaching the Portland Trail Blazers. "We needed guys to come off the bench
and not [have to] run plays for them, but to generate some defensive energy.''

「我們不太需要板凳球員上場得分，但是一定要有防守的能量」。

That works for Barnes, who hasn't forgotten the night he was traded.

這就是Barnes的功用，而他還沒忘記被交易的那個夜晚。

"[The Kings] had just gotten to Dallas; they called me, said there had been a
trade, that I had been included, that I was going to Philly,'' Barnes recalled.
"I thought, going into it, it was going to be a great opportunity. It didn't
work out.''

Barnes回憶起來：「那時候國王隊來到達拉斯作戰；他們叫我、告訴我，
將會有個交易，我要交易到費城。我想這也許是一個好機會，但是事實剛好相反」。

Then-Sixers coach Jim O'Brien had no room on his bench for Barnes. "I was
playing well in Sacramento before I got traded, and then not even being given
an opportunity the last half of the season, it hurt a little,'' Barnes said.

當時的七六人教練Jim O'Brien並沒有空間讓他待在板凳上。
Barnes說：「被交易之前我在國王隊打的不錯，但是下半季我連上場機會都沒有，
這造成一些傷害」。

It didn't stop there. Barnes had trouble getting offers for this season,
because, he said "A lot of teams were questioning why I wasn't playing, if I
had a bad attitude. There were a lot of questions.''

事情還沒結束，Barnes本季遇到沒有合約的窘境。
他說：「很多球隊對於為什麼我無法上場打球感到疑惑，是不是我有著不好的心態，
或者很多問題」。

"But it's all in the past,'' he said. "I'm here now, getting a chance."

「但是一切都過去了」，他說。「我現在在這裡，也有了上場的機會」。
