PHOENIX - Preconceptions? Maybe a few. Jerry Colangelo had no problem admitting
that. But once Colangelo, the managing director of USA Men's Basketball, met
with Allen Iverson, those thoughts disappeared.

Colangelo, chairman of the Phoenix Suns, met with the 76ers star guard before
last night's game, and came away with Iverson very much on a preliminary list
to be invited to try out for the U.S. National Team that will compete in this
summer's World Championships in Saitama, Japan and, hopefully, in the 2008
Olympics in Beijing.

"It went great," Iverson said of the meeting. "He asked me if I was interested,
and I am. I want to play. I had a good experience in 2004, but we won the
bronze. I really want to win a gold medal."

Colangelo intends to interview 30 to 35 players, and eventually invite 20; that
group will be pared to 12, plus a couple of alternates. If that team wins the
World Championships, it will automatically qualify for the Olympics; if not, it
will have to try again in the 2007 Pre-Olympic Tournament. Colangelo hopes to
name a core group of players before the NBA All-Star Game in February.

Colangelo本來想要訪談30到35位球員，來徵招其中20位。最後會縮減成12位，
剩下用來選出替補球員。如果這支隊伍得到世錦賽冠軍，將可以參加奧運，如
果沒有，就要參加2007年奧運會外賽，來爭取奧運資格。Colangelo希望在二月

Iverson, in his 10th season in the league, was less than satisfied with the
bronze medal he helped the U.S. win in 2004.

"He made it very clear he wants to be part of it," Colangelo said. "He said he
would consider it an honor if he is selected. He feels there is something to
prove; there were a lot of positives about his last experience, but there were
some negatives, too, about maybe the lack of chemistry and, obviously, the
results."

Colangelo說：「Iverson很清楚表示他想加入夢幻隊。他說如果他被選中，

"The reality is, he's having a terrific year," Colangelo said. "There also is
much less around the edges surrounding [him], and that's a plus. There isn't
any controversy or stuff out there. That's a very positive thing for him. I
liked the look in his eye. He looked me right in the eye and said it really
would be an honor for him."

「事實上他有非常棒的一年」，Colangelo說：「除了他本身的優勢之外，很少

Colangelo said that, when he started the process, he was hearing that a lot of
players would not be willing to make the necessary 3-year commitment that will
start with a 3-week training camp in July, two exhibition games each in Korea
and China, training sessions at various military bases overseas and the trip to
Japan.

we taught them the game and they came back and beat us at the game. We've got
some work to do. We want to do it the right way."

Colangelo already has met with numerous candidates, and plans to meet this week
with Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal of the Miami Heat and Tim Duncan of the
San Antonio Spurs. He said he has yet to meet a player unwilling to make the
commitment, although he laughed and said there was one candidate who is getting
married in August.
