Snider pleads for fan patience
Snider盼球迷拿出耐心

Ed Snider understands the nature of the Philadelphia sports fans as
well as anyone. The chairman of the ownership that oversees the 76ers
and the Flyers just wishes they would be a little more patient.

長的他希望球迷們可以多拿出一點耐心來。


"There was a whole bunch of boobirds at the Flyers game the other
night," Snider said yesterday. "That's for a team that has
overachieved in light of many injuries. It's tough when fans get down
on you in a situation like that.

「前幾天飛人隊的比賽那天，有一大批觀眾喝倒彩」Snider昨天說：「被噓的
這支隊伍傷員這麼多，表現已經超出實力了。這種情況下還被自家球迷怪罪，
很不好受。」


"The Sixers haven't gotten the fan support this season even when they
were doing better. It's like a wait-and-see attitude. That's not an
excuse. The team has underperformed. Our expectations were higher.
But we knew we had a little problem in training camp, when we never
had our five starters together. And Samuel Dalembert never had a
training camp."

「七六人隊這一整季以來，即使在表現比較好的時候都沒有得到球迷的支持，
球迷好像在等著看好戲一樣。不過那不是藉口，這支隊伍是沒打出水準。我們
期待的不只如此。但是我們也知道，在訓練營的時候就已經有點狀況，因為五
個先發球員根本沒有一起練習過，小戴甚至完全錯過訓練營。」


The Sixers went into last night's game against the Memphis Grizzlies
with a record of 18-20, coming off back-to-back losses to the
Washington Wizards and the New Jersey Nets.

昨晚對壘灰熊前，七六人的戰績是18勝20敗，之前連續輸給了華盛頓巫師和紐
澤西籃網。


But Snider made it clear that president/general manager Billy King's
job is "stable" and he has an appreciation for the degree of
difficulty faced by both King and coach Maurice Cheeks.

但Snider表明，總裁兼總經理的老王現在「沒有失業的顧慮」，而且他瞭解老
王和總教練Mo Cheeks所面臨的處境並不輕鬆。


"Billy's running the club," Snider said. "He's the one making the
tough decisions, if there are any to be made. He's been working day
and night to try and figure out how to resolve the issues. I'm still
not pessimistic, but Philadelphia fans can be difficult, and that
makes it tougher. This is a tough league to turn things around in
instantaneously, because of the way you have to match salaries in
trades. The collective-bargaining agreement that exisits there is not
something I like working with.

「這支球隊是老王在負責的，」Snider表示：「如果有什麼困難的決定要做，
應該由他來做。他已經非常積極的在想辦法解決現在的問題。我還沒放棄希望

"Renowned franchises such as the New York Knicks and the Boston
Celtics are in worse shape than we are, but that's no consolation.
It's just so difficult to climb out of the doldrums. We thought with
two phenomenal veterans like Allen Iverson and Chris Webber
surrounded by the youth we have, that we were going into the season
in pretty good shape. But we had a disastrous training camp."

「像紐約尼克和波士頓賽爾提克這些大球隊現在的情況比我們還糟，但這並不
能讓我們心安。要從這些困境中爬出來真的不容易。我們以為有了AI和C-Webb
，這麼出色的老將，加上其他年輕的隊員，應該可以在球季初打出成績。可是

On Cheeks, Snider said: "The jury is still out, but in my view, he
has a tough job and he's working his butt off. Nobody's neglecting
what they're supposed to be doing. Some moves haven't panned out. But
we gave up some stuff in the Larry Brown years to 'win now.' We're
still paying for it."

關於Cheeks，Snider說：「現在還沒定論，不過我個人認為他這項工作不簡單
而且他也有盡全力在做。我們沒有哪個人是光拿薪水不做事的。有些決策還沒
收到成效。但是我們在Larry Brown的那幾年犧牲了一些東西以求「眼前的勝
利」，到現在那個傷口還在痛。」

Maurice Cheeks was aware that Allen Iverson had begun walking up the
runway to the locker room with about 12 seconds remaining and New
Jersey simply holding the ball in Wednesday night's loss.

禮拜三晚上輸給紐澤西的比賽中，終場十二秒前，籃網隊正在磨時間的時候，
AI就已起身向休息室走去，Mo Cheeks都看在眼裡。


"I talked to him about it, about being a leader," Cheeks said.
"That's not the way to be a leader. I mentioned it, and we'll deal
with it. I gave him my take on what leaders do, and that's not one of
them. I wasn't looking for a response. For me, there was no reason to
do it."

「我跟他談過了，要拿出個領袖的樣子。」Cheeks說：「那樣的動作不是領袖
該有的。我拿出來講過，我們會解決這個問題。我跟他提到，我心裡領袖應有
的作為是什麼，而那天的行為並不符合。我沒有要他做什麼回應。對我而言，
那天的舉動並不合理。」

Kyle Korver came up with the plan for the players to get together for
a paintball session Thursday, "just to have some team fun. We don't
have fun around here right now. It seems like every time we go to
practice, it's so uptight. Everyone's worried about stuff and
whatever. It's a way for people to get out their frustrations, but
still have fun at the same time."

KK想到這個點子：禮拜四全隊一起來玩漆彈，「大家一起快樂一下。現在我們
在這個地方不是太愉快。感覺好像每次我們去練習的時候都很緊張。每個人都
在擔心一些事情。漆彈可以讓大家出出悶氣，但同時也很好玩。」


Making a move

Billy King said he anticipated making a move soon, "not a significant
one, but one that would give us some flexibility."

老王表示他預期很快會有新的動作。「變動並不大，但是會給我們一點彈性空
間。」


He declined to elaborate.
