THERE WAS AN Internet report that Chris Webber had come down hard on his
teammates after a bitter loss in Washington. After the 76ers turned back
Sacramento, 109-103, last night, Webber was asked about it and looked up in
wonderment, asking, in effect, why anyone thought that was news.

一則網路報導指出，七六人在華盛頓吞下苦澀的敗戰之後，Chris Webber嚴厲地
批評隊友。昨晚七六人以109比103擊敗國王隊之後，Webber被問到這件事的源由。

"Hell, yeah, I yelled," he said. "Why would I be a vet and not yell at us
[in that situation]? What am I supposed to do? I've been cussed out by the best
players. That's a locker room. You have to be honest with your family.

Webber and Allen Iverson had their say after the 28-point loss to the Wizards.
Then coach Maurice Cheeks had his 27-minute say after a drab, 11-point loss to
the New Jersey Nets. No one can be certain whether there really is a cause-and-
effect factor, but the Sixers have suddenly reeled off three victories in
succession over the Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves and Kings.

以28分輸給巫師隊之後，Webber和Allen Iverson有談過。接著七六人毫無活力地，
以11分輸給籃網隊之後，教練Maurice Cheeks也跟球員談了27分鐘。沒有人可以確定

"We lost [to the Wizards] by 28 - there should have been several loud exchanges
," Cheeks said. "After a 20-30 point loss, I don't think you would walk into a
locker room and it not be OK. If that did happen, it should be OK."

it OK? Chris and I had a little exchange. It was OK."

Webber insisted he and Iverson were "in agreement, on the same page." They both
took care of business last night, albeit in different ways. Iverson put up 41
points on 16-for-31 shooting; Webber put together 17 points and 13 rebounds.
The result: At the halfway point of the season, the Sixers are 21-20.

right,' " Kyle Korver said. "There wasn't one particular speech. There were a
lot of speeches. There's been a lot of talking. There have been a lot of
meetings. It's us playing good basketball. I don't want to get too caught up
[in it], because, really, we won two [against the Grizzlies and Timberwolves]
we should have lost. But we're doing things to win. That's what counts."

Nothing the Sixers did could control the Kings' Mike Bibby, who torched them
for a career-high 44 points. There were swirling reports yesterday that the
Kings - Webber's former team - were trading Peja Stojakovic to the Indiana
Pacers for Ron Artest. Then there was a second wave of reports that the trade
was off. An ESPN.com report indicated a trade could yet happen, and quoted
Stojakovic saying he was "disappointed" and "kind of disrespected."

七六人拿國王隊的Mike Bibby沒辦法。讓他得到生涯新高的44分。昨天有很多

arrival in the Wachovia Center and was on the team bus afterward; there was
also speculation he would be back playing for the team tonight in New York

don't care what's going on, we can win.' "

The Kings stayed close most of the evening, even climbing within 99-97 with 2
minutes, 32 seconds remaining, but a three-point jumper by Andre Iguodala and
two free throws by Webber gave the Sixers the final cushion they needed. With
Samuel Dalembert also contributing 13 rebounds, the Sixers left with an
imposing 48-34 advantage in that department and a record of 16-1 when they win
the battle of the glass. At the same time, Miller - who had 36 points against
them in Sacramento - was 0-for-8 from the floor and scored only on two free
throws. "We're getting there," Webber said. "It's been different every night
sometimes."

國王隊昨晚一直保持著競爭力，即使最後2分32秒追成99比97只差2分，但是

Here's one way things were different last night: The Sixers issued a brief
statement concerning Lee Nailon, who was charged yesterday in Lower Merion with
simple assault and harassment and was in custody pending a hearing this morning
. Nailon was listed as inactive for the game, but at halftime was shown on a
taped message on the arena screens welcoming the crowd.

昨晚還有一項特殊的事件。七六人發表一項聲明，隊中球員Lee Nailon因為昨天
在Lower Merion被控告攻擊和騷擾罪行，遭到拘留。今早等待審訊。昨晚的比賽，
Nailon被列在無法出賽名單裡面，但是他利用中場休息時間，在體育場大螢幕撥
放影音帶，向觀眾問好。

As somebody said earlier in the day, every time the Sixers think they've turned
the corner, they discover they're living on a cul de sac.

就像先前有人說的，每次七六人認為他們已經度過難關；事實上，他們會發現本身
是處於死胡同裡。
