CHICAGO - If you hang around long enough, you eventually see everything there
is to see on a basketball court. But 76ers coach Maurice Cheeks acknowledged
that he couldn't recall a coach calling time after a game's opening basket,
which is what San Antonio's Gregg Popovich did after the Sixers' Andre Iguodala
soared down the lane for a tomahawk jam over Spurs superstar Tim Duncan.

如果你夠老練，最終能了解球場上的情形，就能理解各種事情。但是七六人教練
Maurice Cheeks承認他想不起來，有哪位教練在開賽第一個進球之後，就叫了暫

"I've never seen a coach call a timeout that early," Cheeks said. "Pop got mad
after being down, 2-0."

Or maybe Popovich just wanted to remind his players that Iguodala, the second-
year swingman out of the University of Arizona, has the kind of hops that are
rarely observed, even in the NBA.

或者，Popovich只是想要提醒他的球員，Iguodala這位出身亞利桑那大學的二年級

No wonder Iguodala will represent the Sixers in the dunk contest tomorrow night
during NBA All-Star weekend in Houston.

"Oh, yeah, he can dunk," said Cheeks, who made a career during his playing days
delivering above-the-rim passes to a pretty good leaper named Julius Erving.
"But in a dunk contest, you have to have some creativity. It's not just jumping
ability. Plus, you have to make them."

職業生涯中，常常傳高吊球給隊友一級灌將Julius Erving的Cheeks說：「噢，
他當然很會灌籃。但是在灌籃大賽中，你必須要有些創意，靠的不只是彈跳力。

Iguodala, who also will play in tonight's Rookie Challenge, hasn't competed in
even informal dunk contests since he was in high school, when he and some
friends tried to outimpress one another.

今晚也將參加新秀對抗賽的Iguodala，甚至高中時期和一些朋友在非正式灌籃
大賽相互較勁，都沒有贏過。

"But I haven't done anything like that lately," Iguodala said before the Sixers
lost to the Chicago Bulls last night at the United Center. "It takes away from
your legs, all that jumping. I stay away from it when I don't need to do it."

So, has Iguodala gone back in time to recreate some unique, crowd-pleasing
monster throwdowns? Will he name them, as did famously dunking ex-Sixer Darryl
Dawkins?

"I'm not going to put any pressure on myself," said Iguodala, whose low-key
personality is in contrast to the skywalking flair he occasionally exhibits
during games. "I'm just going to have fun with it. I know a lot of fans want to
see me do it, so I'm just going to go with the flow.

Iguodala表示：「我不會給自己任何壓力。」他低調的個性，與偶爾在比賽中

"I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I know [All-Star weekend] can be a

Unlike the early days of the dunk contest, when the likes of Doctor J,
Dominique Wilkins and Michael Jordan brought superstar credibility to a made-
for-TV event, the trend in recent years has been for the bigger names to recuse
themselves from the extracurricular activities. Last year's dunk winner was
Atlanta's Josh Smith, an intriguing young talent but a ways removed from
achieving superstar status.

不像過去J博士Dominique Wilkins與Michael Jordan為適合電視撥出的表演，帶來
超級巨星的信譽；近幾年的潮流則是一些倍受矚目的球員，往往盡量拒絕參加額外

Iguodala figures these events are a way of giving back something to the game.

"All the great players did these things at one time or another, whether it's
the three-point shooting contest or the dunk contest," he reasoned. "Even Allen
[Iverson] was in the three-point shooting contest once."

大賽，就連Allen Iverson也參加過一次三分球大賽」。

Cheeks said Iguodala's participation in the Rookie Challenge, which pits top
rookies against second-year standouts, and the dunk contest is a way for
America to be formally introduced to his emerging star.

Cheeks說Iguodala參加頂級菜鳥球員對抗優秀二年級生的新秀挑戰賽，還有
灌籃大賽，是正式向全國介紹他這位新興巨星的方法。

"I think some people know about Andre," he said. "I don't know if a lot of
people know about him yet. But him being in this kind of a showcase, if you
will, will open a lot of people's eyes. I think he'll do fine."

So does Iverson, who is a fan of Iguodala's game.

"I don't think Andre, being so young, understands how good he can be," the
original A.I. said. "He is so talented, and he just goes out there and plays
the game. I think with more experience and him being in a lot of game
situations, he can only get better. He can be as good as he wants to be."

Maurice Cheeks has played and coached in Philadelphia so long, he qualifies as
a native, but he was born and raised in Chicago and always enjoys trips back to
his hometown.

"They'll be right there," he said, pointing to some seats behind the Sixers
bench where friends and family members congregated.

But his staunchest support and biggest fan, his mom Majorie, was a no-show. She
always is.

但是最支持他的人兼頭號球迷，他的媽媽Majorie，並不會出現。而她總是如此。

"She can't take the games," Cheeks said. "See, the TV, she can turn off if
we're losing. She can't do that if she's actually at the game."

Cheeks說：「他不能掌控比賽，你看，有電視轉播阿，如果我們輸球，她可以
關掉電視機。如果他在現場，就沒辦法不看我們比賽了。」
