Allen Iverson won't dwell on being tired from the grind of the long NBA season.
The 76ers guard says he is fine "as far as my stamina and everything like that."

一年一年漫長的賽季，Allen Iverson 從未喊過一句累。這個七六人的後衛說他會燃燒他

But Iverson did admit yesterday that he hasn't gotten back his conditioning
since returning to the lineup after a sprained right ankle that kept him out of
four games earlier this month, and that the ankle still isn't 100 percent.

"It's just the ankle injury and not being out there on the floor," Iverson said
after practice at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. "That's why
[coach Maurice Cheeks] tried to keep me out today, to rest a little bit. But I
wanted to keep on playing and finish practice out just to try to get in some
type of game condition."

Since returning to the lineup last Wednesday, Iverson has shot 34.8 percent
from the field in three games and averaged 24.0 points, more than nine less
than his average before his injury. In the second half of those three games, he
shot 6 for 29 (20.8 percent).

"It's not strong enough; it's weak," Iverson said of the ankle, which he
injured March 12 in Memphis. "In the beginning of games, I'm pretty much all
right, but once I sit at halftime and it stiffens up and everything, it's kind
of tough for me going down the stretch. But I'm fine."

Of course, this presents a dilemma for Cheeks, whose team has lost nine of its
last 11 games going into tonight's matchup at the Wachovia Center against the
Detroit Pistons, the No. 1 team in the Eastern Conference.

Iverson and Chris Webber are the Sixers' main options on offense. But it's
clear to the coach that his star guard isn't 100 percent. Cheeks noted that a
driving shot by Iverson in the lane rarely is blocked by another guard, which
is what Indiana's Jamaal Tinsley did Sunday in the Pacers' win over the Sixers.

As for giving Iverson more rest, Cheeks chuckled and said: "It depends on the
game.

"He probably could use a couple of extra minutes here and there," he said. "I
thought when he came back in the Atlanta game, he played off adrenaline. The
Orlando game was a little bit tougher coming off the four games that he had
missed. I think his legs got a little more weary than we probably thought."

It's true that Iverson needs to play closer to his all-star level to get the
Sixers out of their funk and hold off the Chicago Bulls in the fight for the
eighth playoff spot in the East.

But the team's main problem continues to be defense. The Sixers have allowed
each of their last three opponents to shoot better than 50 percent against
them. They continue to rank near the bottom of the NBA in points allowed (25th,
101.58), field-goal percentage defense (23d, 46.2 percent) and rebounding
margin (25th, minus-2.62).

and everything. But playing together is every aspect of the game, and our
problem is that we're not playing on defense - talking, helping each other."

to wear down."

about if other teams win games. You've just got to concentrate on what you do

To avoid that, Cheeks said he hopes his team can rekindle the focus and effort
that resulted in an overtime win against West-leading San Antonio on Feb. 15.

"We need a win no matter who it is," Cheeks said. "Detroit is coming in, and

"We need to show ourselves," he said. "If we have to face them, this game's not
going to mean anything, because they can look at their regular-season record
and look at ours and feel confident that they can beat us. This game's not
going to matter to those guys, but it will matter to us."
