Sixers Look Ahead to the Summer as Season Winds Down
球季落幕 七六人展望暑假

"We're going to do whatever it takes."
「怎麼樣做最好，我們就怎麼辦。」


Those were the exact words spoken by Sixers President and General
Manager Billy King when asked what was going to be done to turn the
Sixers into a winner this off-season.

這是七六人總裁及總經理Billy King，稍早被問到將如何把七六人在暑假變成
一支常勝軍時，確切的回答。


With only two regular season games remaining, and having already been
eliminated from playoff contention, the Sixers held their final
practice of the season on Apr. 17. There was a sense of
disappointment in the air as the Sixers were preparing to end their
season much earlier than they anticipated just six months ago.

七六人本季僅剩下兩場比賽，也已經無緣晉級季後賽。他們在十七號進行本季
最後一次的練習。這個球季的結束，比六個月前預期的要早得多，隊員間似乎

“I think at the beginning of the season, when I got here, we talked
about Chris (Webber) and Allen (Iverson) on the offensive end and
being able to play together,” said Maurice Cheeks, who is completing
his first season as the Sixers Head Coach. “The attention to that
was paid. I think, for myself, it was paid to see if Allen and Chris
could play together. And certainly they did that, we accomplished
that. But we did not accomplish on the defensive end.”

即將要結束在七六人的第一季教練生涯的Maurice Cheeks說：「我想這個球季
開始，我剛到這裡的時候，我們談到怎麼樣讓Chris和Allen來進攻，一起合作

Iverson and Webber proved early that they could play with each other
on the offensive end, becoming the league’s highest scoring duo
while averaging more than 50 points per game combined. Yet, as Cheeks
said, it was the team’s defense that did them in more often than
not. The team is currently ranked 25th in the NBA in scoring defense,
giving up 101.5 points per game. The Sixers defensive shortcomings
are on the mind of King, and will play a large role in determining
what steps he takes this summer to improve the team.

Iverson和Webber很早就證明了他們可以在進攻端合作，以加起來超過50分的平

“I know that we need to add some veterans, for some experience
factor. We have to revamp in our approach, more or less, become
defensive oriented more,” said King after the Sixers practice. “I
think we have some offensive tools that can score. I think we have to
become a better defensive team, a tougher defensive team, and I think
some of the pieces on this roster have that capability…We’re going
to build this team based on defense. If it takes rebuilding it, we
will. If it takes tinkering we’ll tinker. We’re going to do
whatever it takes to get us back on track.”

七六人練習後，老王表示：「我知道我們必須多一些老將，增加一點經驗。我們
必須改變一下策略，多多少少，要更有防守意識。我想我們有一些進攻武器，得
分不是問題。我想我們必須加強隊伍的防守、更紮實一點。我想現在球員名單上

我們就怎麼做。」


King’s statements imply that nobody is untradable, even Iverson, who
is nearing the completion of his 10th season with the Sixers and has
been the cornerstone of the franchise since he was drafted first
overall in the 1996 NBA Draft. The off-season will be filled with
speculation about whether or not Iverson will be traded, but he made
one thing clear when he spoke to the media.

老王的發言，暗示沒有人不能交易。即使是從1996年以狀元身份進入後一直是
球隊基石、到現在幾乎要打完在七六人第十個球季的Iveson，也一樣。即將來
臨的季間期(Off-season)中，Iverson會不會被交易，將是各方不斷揣測的話
題，不過他向媒體發言時，有一件事講得很清楚。


“I want to be a Sixer. It’s all about if the organization wants me
to be here,” said Iverson when asked if he would like to be traded.
“If I’m traded I won’t have anything to do with that. If I leave
Philadelphia it’s not because I want to leave. If I get traded then
I get traded. This is where I want to be, I haven’t changed at all. I
’m still in love with the place and I want to be here. I don’t want
to chase a championship. I want to win a championship and I think I
deserve to win a championship after everything I’ve put in as far as
trying to win one, but I’m not going to chase it. I can end my
career without a championship and be happy with the effort I gave to
try to win one.”

「我想在七六人打球。這都要看球團要不要我。」被問到想不想被交易的時候
，Iverson做了這些回應：「如果要交易我，一定不是我的意思。如果我離開
費城，一定不是我想走。如果要交易我那就交易我吧。這裡才是我想待的地方
，我的態度從來沒變過。我還是愛這個城市，也想留下來。我不想為了總冠軍
而跳槽。我想拿一個總冠軍，在這裡我已經為總冠軍努力了這麼久，我想我也
應該得到一座，但是我不會為了這個跳槽。我可以接受退休的時候沒有總冠軍
，並且對我所付出的一切，感到滿足。」


The Sixers are not happy with the outcome of their season, and even
with two games remaining before the official end, they are looking
forward to next October.

七六人對於本季的結果並不滿足，即使還剩兩場比賽才正式落幕，他們已經在
期待今年十月的來臨。


“We’re going to be looked at as a failure, and I don’t like to
start anything and not finish it,” Webber said. “All I can do is be
ready to play a lot of games and a lot of minutes next year.”

「大家會把我們當成一個失敗的例子，而我不喜歡虎頭蛇尾。」
Webber說：「我能做的，就是準備好在明年大量的比賽、大量的上場。」
