Louis Williams has been getting playing time and confidence this summer - two
things he was a little short on during his rookie season with the 76ers, when
he made the difficult transition from high school hotshot to deep, deep
reserve.

After winning the 2005 Naismith Award as the nation's top high school player,
Williams bypassed a scholarship to the University of Georgia and entered the
NBA draft. The Sixers chose him in the second round, with the 45th overall pick.

He appeared in only 30 games last season, usually at mop-up time, for a total

Since the Sixers didn't have a first-round pick last year, they didn't enter a
summer league. This year, Williams has benefited from Utah's Rocky Mountain
Revue, in which he averaged 33 minutes his first three games.

In those games, he averaged 20.3 points and 5.6 assists while shaking off the
rust from his splinter-filled first NBA season on the bench.

"This really feels good to get this kind of playing time," Williams said
yesterday in a phone interview before the Sixers' game against San Antonio.

Williams, who won't turn 20 until Oct. 27, said adjusting to life as a
professional basketball player was much more difficult than he had imagined.

"Everything comes so fast at you," he said. "I wasn't used to practicing so
hard and then having a game the next day and a shoot-around. I was drained."

After the season ended, Williams continued to work on his game. He has been a
shooting guard most of his life, but, at 6-foot-1, he realizes his minutes
will be earned at the point in the NBA.

"Last year was really the first year I've played the point, so I am still
learning and I am becoming much more comfortable," he said.

After the first two games in Utah, when Williams had 10 assists but 11
turnovers, Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks had a talk with him about taking better
care of the basketball.

During Monday's 90-59 win over Dallas, Williams had 22 points and seven
assists, but six turnovers.

"I've been committing about five turnovers a game, but we are playing at such
a fast pace," Williams said. "The thing Coach Cheeks told me was that he
doesn't want the unforced turnovers."

Cheeks said the entire organization would like to see Williams take a major
leap in his second year.

"Coming out here has been great for Louis, because he's been able to pick up a
lot of things," Cheeks said. "He's still learning things, such as when to
involve his teammates, but a lot of times we forget that he is 19 and just a
year out of high school."

Notes. Former Temple point guard Lynn Greer, from Engineering and Science
High, signed a two-year guaranteed contract yesterday with the Milwaukee
Bucks, according to agent Leon Rose. Greer played the last four years overseas
and was MVP last season in Lega A, the top professional league in Italy. He
averaged 22.8 points and 3.4 assists for Carpisa Napoli. Greer said the first
person he called after finding out he'd be a Buck was his former Temple coach,
John Chaney. "I wanted to tell him right away," Greer said last night from
Milwaukee. "He was excited and happy for me, and I'm so excited to be in the
NBA." With T.J. Ford traded to Toronto, Milwaukee could be a good fit for
Greer.

The Sixers improved to 4-0 with yesterday's 87-61 win over the Spurs. Williams
scored 23 points, while 6-10 Edin Bavcic added 21 points, shooting 7 for 10
from the field... . No games are scheduled today in the Rocky Mountain Revue.
The Sixers will resume action tomorrow against Seattle.

七六人在昨天對上聖安東尼奧以 87-61 的比數取得四連勝。 Louis得了 23 分，而六呎
十吋的 Edin Bavcic 十投七中也拿到了 21 分。(砲台? @@)今天是表訂的休息日，落磯山
