Software Engineer - Generalist

Location: Taipei, Taiwan

About Us:

Tired of working on the Same Old Code?  At Fliptop, we're using state-of-the-
art technologies and massive scale to solve challenging data problems for
big-name brands.  We’re a Silicon Valley startup with a growing R&D team
in Taipei.  You can become our resident expert in Rails, Hadoop, Solr,
Amazon Web Services—anything that strikes your fancy and gets the job done.
Or use your existing mad skills to brainwash mentor your uber-talented
teammates.

Responsibilities:
        Learn fast.
        Pitch in wherever help is needed.
        Take independent ownership of major systems and projects, new and old.
Requirements:
        2+ years working on a consumer-facing web application with at least
        one of the following characteristics:
        At least 2 million page views / month.
        At least 5 servers in production.
        At least 100 GB of data
        Runs on a cloud computing platform like Amazon EC2, Engine Yard or
        Google App Engine.
        Experience finding and removing performance bottlenecks using logging
        and profiling tools.  Milliseconds matter to you!
        Fluency in English.  If you understood this post, you’re probably
        good to go.
        Demonstrable skills in at least one of the following languages: Java,
        Scala, Ruby, Python.  There will be coding tests.
Bonus Points:
        Experience w/ the Hadoop stack (incl. Hive, Pig, etc.)
        Experience w/ distributed full-text search using Lucene/Solr
        (or similar)
        Experience or academic background in machine-learning and/or NLP
        Experience w/ nose-bleeding front-end technologies like CoffeeScript,
        HTML5, Node.js
        Experience w/ business rules engines (Drools, Jess, etc.)
        Experience w/ IDLs (Thrift, Protobuf, etc.)
