Billy Corgan has broken his silence on why rock act Smashing Pumpkins broke up
in 2000.
In a wide-ranging new interview with The Chicago Tribune, Corgan said he broke
up the Pumpkins - which disbanded in 2000 but reformed in 2007 with a new line
-up - because of original guitarist James Iha.
"The real story was Iha was driving me out of my mind," Corgan said.
"He was so negative. The guy literally drove me insane."
Corgan also said the Pumpkins would stop releasing albums and become a singles-
focused band after the negative reaction to their most recent album, Zeitgeist.
"We're done with that. There is no point. People don't even listen to it all.
They put it on their iPod, they drag over the two singles, and skip over the re
st."
"Our primary function now is to be a singles band, that drives Pumpkins Inc thr
ough singles. We'll still be creative, but in a different form."
The band's most recent release was the single G.L.O.W.
