Spurs star Manu Ginobili had successful surgery on his left ankle and
heel Wednesday afternoon in Los Angeles.

The procedure, conducted by Dr. Richard Ferkel, repaired a posterior
impingement that bothered Ginobili during the 2007-08 season, particularly
during the Spurs' Western Conference finals series against the Los Angeles
Lakers.
由Richard Ferkel醫生主導的手術解決了這個在上個球季困擾著Manu（特別是季後賽對上

Ginobili is to return to San Antonio today. He will be in a splint and on
crutches for three weeks, after which he will be re-evaluated and begin a
rehabilitation regimen.

The recovery and rehabilitation process is expected to last two to three
months, meaning Ginobili will miss training camp, preseason and the first

On Tuesday, Ginobili told the Argentine newspaper, Ole!, that his relations
with the Spurs had not been impaired by having been injured during the
Olympic tournament, which Spurs coach Gregg Popovich advised him to skip.
However, he also disclosed that negotiations for a contract extension that
had begun before his most recent injury had been postponed.

Ginobili is to make $9.9 million next season and $10.7 million in 2009-10,
the final season on a six-year deal he signed in the summer of 2004.

The Spurs' top scorer last season, when he averaged a career-high 19.5
points, Ginobili has injured the ankle several times during his six seasons
with the Spurs. The most recent injury occurred while he was playing for the
Argentine Olympic team in the semifinals of the Olympic basketball tournament
on Aug. 22.

Argentina's leading scorer in the games that preceded the injury was
scoreless when he left the semifinal game against the United States just 6:21
after it began.

Ginobili jammed his left ankle in April during the Spurs' first-round playoff
series against the Phoenix Suns, but remained one of the Spurs' most
effective playoff scorers. The injury worsened during the team's Western
Conference finals loss to the Lakers. After averaging 20.1 points in the
first two rounds of the playoffs, his scoring average dipped to 12.6 points
against the Lakers.

An MRI exam after that series revealed significant swelling to ligaments in
the heel and ankle joint, and Popovich urged Ginobili to consider forgoing
the Olympic competition. Ginobili opted to play for Argentina after reporting
that rest and rehabilitation had completely eliminated pain in the joint.
