Popovich mulls changing of Spurs guards

PHOENIX — Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was non-committal when asked if
Tony Parker would be back in the starting lineup tonight.

Manu Ginobili, who knows something about postseason lineup shuffles,
says he won't be surprised if it happens. Phoenix guard Steve Nash
figures it's “just a matter of time.”

It seems the only person certain about the role Parker will fill in Game
2 of the Western Conference semifinals is Parker himself.

Parker則是唯一一個不覺得會有變動的人

“I expect to come off the bench,” Parker said after Tuesday's practice.
“Once Pop makes a decision, usually it doesn't change.”

History, not to mention Ginobili, attests otherwise. Popovich has famously
played lineup roulette in the past, particularly with Ginobili and
particularly when behind in a series.

Having lost Game 1 on Monday 111-102, but with Parker coming on late to
torch Nash, the stage could be set for another lineup swap in Game 2.
Could Parker — aka “Manu Jr.” — be in line for another Manu moment?

“It wouldn't shock me,” Ginobili said.

A three-time All-Star and former Finals MVP, Parker has backed up George
Hill at point since his April 6 return from a fractured hand. In the Dallas
series, Parker averaged 15.8 points in that role.

This series, however, presents an obvious opportunity for a changing of
the guard.

The Spurs have stated the goal of attacking Nash on defense, making him
expend energy without scoring, and Parker's style is more conducive to
that than Hill's. Two years ago, Parker averaged 29.5 points against the
Suns in the playoffs.

aggressive outing of the playoffs. Still, Popovich wouldn't say if Parker
will start Game 2, only that it's under consideration.

Now matter how Popovich plays it tonight, the Suns expect the Spurs to
bounce back. History bears that out, too.

Eight times in the past eight postseasons, the Spurs have lost the first
game of a series. Six times, they came back to win it.

That includes last month, when the Spurs dropped their first-round opener
at Dallas but bounced back to take the series in six games.

Teams that lose the first game of a best-of-7 series lose the series 78
percent of the time. The Tim Duncan-era Spurs have turned that statistic
on its head.

For that reason, along with their own painful history against the Spurs,
the Suns aren't too comfortable.

The obvious adjustment involves Popovich's starting lineup.

Healthy for the first time this year, Parker presents a unique challenge
for Nash. Clearly, he felt Parker's absence early in Game 1.

現在大概是Parker這一整年最健康的時候，也代表可以給Nash帶來最大挑戰的時刻
，但在Game 1的前半段，Nash的確沒感受到太多來自Parker的挑戰～

From the opening tip, Nash zipped past Hill — typically the Spurs' best
perimeter defender — on the way to 33 points and 10 assists. On defense,
Nash didn't have to break a sweat until the second half, when Parker had
his Phoenix flashback.

這段簡單講就是：Hill對Nash還太嫩，Parker則有Nash後面的內線人員幫忙檔，
 Hill：「我真想哭～」

“I told George at halftime, ‘You need to get Steve tired, you need to
attack him,'” Parker said. “You don't want him just chilling in the
corner.”

Parker說：「我對嫩Hill說：你要盡情地挑逗Nash...喔～不～是挑戰Nash，別把
他冷落在牆角，要過去挑逗他才行～喔～不～挑戰他」

Once unleashed on the Suns, Parker attacked Nash, wiggled into the paint
and, more than once, rambled coast-to-coast for layups, helping spark the
Spurs' ill-fated comeback.

就是要在進攻上不斷挑戰Nash，讓他到處跑，稍微拖慢Nash回防速度，也才稍微掩
飾馬刺回防速度慢的問題～

Whether that's enough to get Parker into the starting lineup for Game 2,
only Parker seems sure.

不過Parker到底回不回先發，這問題還沒個準～

“I'm coming off the bench,” Parker said. “I just know.”

Parker說：「我會當板凳拉～要不要賭一個Eva?」

Popovich's history, as well as what happened in Game 1, should warn Parker
otherwise.
