Parker shrugs off back-to-back bad games

The Spurs will be in Oakland tonight, playing at Golden State and looking to
extend the best start in franchise history. Meanwhile, this morning, at a
downtown hotel on the other side of the Bay, Tony Parker was answering
questions about back-to-back poor games against Dallas and New Orleans.

poorly, as he did in the past two games, people wonder if his off-the-court
travails are finally catching up to him.

What Parker suggested Monday morning, after shootaround at a downtown San
Francisco health club, is probably closer to the truth: Some games you play
well, some games you don’t — and there isn’t always a reasonable outside

“The last game in New Orleans, I didn’t get a lot of opportunities,”
Parker said. “Sometimes, that’s going to happen. You’re going to have
games like that.”

Parker went 2-for-7 with six points Sunday against the Hornets, but did hand
out nine assists in a game the Spurs won. He played better than he did two
nights earlier in a loss to Dallas, when he was 4 of 12 with nine points and
only one assist, and snapped a string of 14 straight double-digit scoring
outings.
After opening the season on a career-best tear, it’s possible Parker is
drawing increased attention in opposing game plans. Even after two sub-par
outings, Parker is averaging 17.9 points, a career-high 7.4 assists and
shooting 52 percent.

trapping the pick and rolls a little bit more last game. They were playing
good defense. I didn’t want to force it.”
Parker has a decent chance to bounce back tonight against the Warriors, a
team he always seems to play well against.
He insists that, for the 48 minutes a night he’s on an NBA court, he’s
having some of the most fun of his life right now. Perhaps basketball is
providing Parker a refuge from the turmoil of the court. Perhaps winning is
the perfect distraction.
“It’s fun,” Parker said. “Especially because we’re winning.”
