Don’t ask Gregg Popovich why his team is shooting free-throws at a
club-record rate so far this season.
不要問Pop為什麼他的球隊本季至目前為止罰球命中率是歷來最不馬刺的一季。
“If I knew, we’d been shooting like we’re shooting for the last 10 years,”
Popovich said.

Popovich might not have the answer as to why he’s suddenly got a roster
full of Mark Prices when it comes to free-throw shooting. He’ll certainly
live with the results.

The Spurs are making 80.4 percent of their free throws this season
(409-509), a rate that would match a team record set in 1987-88. That number
ranks an eye-popping third in the league.

Five players — Manu Ginobili (90.7 percent), George Hill (84.8), Tony Parker
(81.2), Antonio McDyess (84.2) and DeJuan Blair (84.2) — are shooting a
career high. Blair’s transformation has been especially stunning, given
54.7 percentage last season.
馬刺陣中有五名球員分別來到生涯新高: Manu Ginobili (.907 ), George Hill
(.848), Tony Parker (.812), Antonio McDyess (.842) and DeJuan Blair (.842)。其

Even Tim Duncan, whose occasional yips at the foul line are notorious, is
shooting 70.7 percent, well above his career average.

Some credit goes to shooting coach Chip Engelland, of course, who works with
many of the Spurs’ shooters. But it’s not like Engelland just started
teaching free throws last summer.

“We’ve been working on it,” Ginobili said. “But every year we work on it.
”

The uptick in free-throw percentage is a small reason the Spurs are scoring
at a Popovich-era high clip, 106.6 points per game. If last year’s team,
which shot 74 percent from the foul line, had been as accurate, it would
have resulted in an increase of 1.5 points per game, moving that team’s
scoring average up to 103.
罰球命中率的進步是本季球隊場均得分來到Pop時代新高106.6的原因之一。上一季的馬刺

Ginobili, who ranks seventh in the league in free-throw accuracy, is most
proud of the fact that the Spurs seem to be making more foul shots in the
clutch. In Friday’s 107-101 win over Minnesota, the Spurs made all 16 of
their attempts in the fourth quarter, coming back from 15 points down in the
win.
Manu身為聯盟罰球命中率第七名的球員，對本季馬刺最自豪的地方莫過於關鍵時刻的那些

“We’re making important ones, too, when it counts,” said Ginobili, who
was 13-of-13 against Minnesota. “That makes it look even better.”

Ginobili, like Popovich, has no explanation for why the Spurs are suddenly
clutch from the foul line. He just hopes it keeps up.
