Knicks star’s assertion surprises Spurs

The Spurs dominated the New York Knicks in the second half of a 118-105
victory, the final score hardly reflective of how thoroughly they had
outplayed the injury depleted Knicks.

It was surprising, then, when Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire asserted that
the Spurs “don’t have nearly enough talent to compete with us.”

To be fair, the context of Stoudemire’s statement was criticism of the
Knicks for failing in aspects of offense for which he praised the Spurs:
execution, spacing and ball movement.

Nevertheless, his assertion surprised some Spurs.

“Was this after the game?” Spurs forward Richard Jefferson said Thursday
morning, a look of incredulity on his face.

“You respect all of your opponents,” Jefferson said. “If he feels that
way, you should always feel your team is greater and your team has abilities.
We do have a lot of veteran guys who have been here a long time. They are a

training camp and they have some new pieces and for that, it takes time. You
wish them the best with that.”

The Spurs allowed that Stoudemire may be right about the relative talent
levels of the two teams.

馬刺認為Stoudemire在比較兩隊的天份等級上或許是對的。

“If we were playing the game on paper they would probably beat us,” guard
Gary Neal said. “We’ve probably had 20 dunks all year. Amare has probably
dunked the ball 20 times in a week.

「如果我們打的是紙上籃球，他們或許可以擊敗我們，」Neal說。「我們一整季下來可
能只有20次灌籃。Amare可能一週就灌了20次。」

“On paper they look better than us, but basketball is played on the court.
If that’s how Amare feels, that’s how he feels.”
