Tim Duncan on Kawhi
“I don’t think he ever gets excited,” Tim Duncan said Saturday. “He’s
absolutely even keel the entire time. I think he’s even more mellow than me,
if that’s possible.”
TD:「我想口愛應該從來沒有興奮過……他比我還老成,如果那是可能的話。」
Duncan consciously works to keep a poker face. Leonard is a natural.
Duncan有意識的維持樸克臉,但口愛則是渾然天成。

From Randy Foye
"I heard Popovich say, 'If you pass down the shot, you're coming out of the
game,'" Clippers guard Randy Foye said. "I heard him say that to Gary Neal
and I heard him say that to Danny Green. That's just the confidence coming
from the coach. ... And even if he misses, I'm running back with him, and I
see [Popovich] clapping his hands and cheering him on. It's the system."
During San Antonio's 24-0, eight-minute run in the third quarter, the Spurs
made 10 of 15 shots without any turnovers while the Clippers went 0-for-12
with two turnovers. Foye recalled a play during the run on which Tony Parker
hit Manu Ginobili on a backdoor pass that could be completed only by a tandem
that has played together for the past nine seasons.
"I overplayed [Ginobili] and I kind of felt him about to make the move but I
said he can't because that pass is too tough," Foye said, "and at the last
minute, when I was getting ready to rotate my feet, it came. He pushed my
body up enough and made the play.
"Those guys have been playing together for so long that if they look at each
other one way, they already know to go backdoor. When guys play together for
a long time, all you have to do is look at that guy a certain way."
It's the kind of chemistry the Clippers simply don't have and not-so-secretly
long for while they watch the Spurs slowly pick them apart, showing how far
the Clippers have to go before they can truly be considered title contenders.
"I'm not going to lie to you. It was devastating today," Foye said. "It was
tough on the psyche and definitely tough on the body. You're out there and
you're giving it your all, and they go fast and then they go slow. It's
basically like [Popovich] is over there saying, 'Pick your poison.'
"'Oh, you're going to take away Timmy [Duncan]; there goes Kawhi Leonard in
the corner. Oh, you're going to take away Kawhi? Here's Ginobili, and Tony
Parker is going to go coast to coast. If you take that away, we're going to
kick it out to Danny Green for a 3.'
"It's pick your poison with those guys."

Someone asked Gregg Popovich why he opted to foul Reggie Evans in the fourth
quarter of Saturday’s game, and Popovich said simply:
“Because he’s not a good free throw shooter.”
Everyone laughed.
“I’m not trying to be a wise guy,” Popovich continued. “I just don’t
know what else to tell you. We weren’t going to go foul Chris Paul. I’m
sorry to be a wise guy, but I fouled him for a reason. It’s not pretty.
Basically, it’s ugly, but it’s part of the game. My job is to try to win.”
But Popovich didn’t disclose another reason he chose to stop the clock when
he had the lead, and one on staff confirmed this: By wrapping up Evans, the
Spurs avoided having to play defense and burn up additional energy.
At that point, Popovich likely figured he had to do everything he could not
to exhaust his players. Tim Duncan played 38 minutes and Tony Parker 36,
because Popovich felt he had no other choice. Once the Spurs had overcome the
Clippers’ lead, Popovich felt it paramount to win Game 3 and not worry about
Sunday night.
So he was thinking how best to minimize the wear, and fouling Evans was part
of the equation. By fouling him, the Spurs didn’t have to get into a
defensive stance, speed in front of Paul, rotate to the other side of the
floor, etc. They merely had to stand while one of them grabbed Evans. Then,
on the other end of the floor, Parker could dribble 24 seconds off the clock,
shoot and get ready to foul Evans again.
So did Duncan really play 38 minutes? Or, in effect, was the number closer to
33 or 34?
Back to Popovich’s original point: The Spurs will also never get tired of
watching Evans make 3-of-10 free throws.

Roy Hibbert on Duncan

Pacers' Roy Hibbert gets guidance from Tim Duncan, and it's paying off
PUBLISHED Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 1:23 pm EDT
If you’ve noticed a change for the better in Roy Hibbert’s game this season
and during the NBA playoffs, you can thank Spurs star center Tim Duncan for
that, The Indianapolis Star reports.
Hibbert spent considerable time with the 13-time NBA All-Star during the
lockout, learning what it takes to become an NBA force. And Hibbert, well
known for being unable to control his emotions, has taken a page from the
nearly unflappable Duncan and learned to go about his business like the
Spurs' veteran. That maturation is a big reason why the Pacers hold a 2-1
series lead against the Miami Heat. Duncan is said to text Hibbert after
every game.
"Roy's been the biggest key in this series," Pacers guard Darren Collison
told The Indianapolis Star. "He's been protecting the paint better than I've
ever seen him. It's not just his effort. His effort is there, but also is his
assertiveness. Those are the type of numbers you expect from an All-Star
center."
Hibbert grew up idolizing Duncan, and now he’s imitating him. Hibbert had 19
points and a career-high 18 rebounds in the Pacers’ Game 3 win and is
averaging a Duncan-like 14.7 points, 13.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in this
series.
It no doubt helps that Hibbert doesn’t have to contend with Heat big man
Chris Bosh, who has missed the past two games with an abdominal strain and is
out indefinitely. But you have to give considerable credit to Hibbert himself
for putting in the work to change his ways.
"I had a roller coaster first three years in terms of my career," Hibbert
said. "(Duncan) doesn't get too high, doesn't get too low. I model my game
after him. He's somebody who looks out for me."
