The Hawks confirmed the hiring of Spurs assistant Mike Budenholzer as their
new head coach on Tuesday, the last step of a whirlwind afternoon in which
news of Atlanta’s interest went from securing permission to negotiate to
completion in little more than an hour.

老鷹周二證實馬刺助理教練 Mike Budenholzer將會是下季的教練,這結束了整個下午所

It marks the first head coaching job for Budenholzer, who had been with the
Spurs for 18 seasons after joining the franchise as video coordinator. He had
reportedly interviewed with Detroit and Philadelphia before Atlanta, led by
former Spurs player and executive Danny Ferry, aggressively pursued him to
replace Larry Drew.

Budenholzer, 43, will remains with the Spurs through the Finals. The Spurs
swept Memphis in the Western Conference finals to reach the championship
round for the first time since 2007. They will face either defending champion
Miami or Indiana. The Heat leads the East finals 2-1 entering tonight’s Game
4.

“I couldn’t be happier for Mike for many reasons,” Spurs head coach Gregg
Popovich said. “I will miss him a great deal both professionally and
personally and am confidence he and Danny will make a great team as the
future unfolds.”

Atlanta went 44-38 this season to reach the playoffs for the sixth straight
season. They were eliminated 4-2 by Indiana in the first round. The Hawks
have never advanced past the second round since the current 16-team playoff
format was implemented.
