MIAMI — In the hours following their collapse in Game 6 of the NBA Finals,
the Spurs did not contemplate leaping off one of the gleaming towers dotting
Miami’s skyline.

NBA總冠軍賽第6賽崩盤後的幾個小時, 馬刺並沒有想著要從Miami裡的其中一棟摩天大樓

Instead, they gathered for a team dinner that served as a therapy session in
addition to filling the same stomachs the Heat had just punched with one of
the most improbable comebacks in NBA history.

“It definitely helped, because obviously in the locker room everybody was

sad too long. It’s very important that we bounce back and that we forget
last night.”

Whether or not the Spurs can do that after coming within seconds of
eliminating the Heat for their fifth championship won’t be known until
Thursday’s Game 7. The Spurs face long odds, seeking to become just the
fourth road team to clinch a title in 18 Finals Game 7s.

Manu Ginobili made no attempt to hide his disappointment in the immediate
aftermath of Game 6, describing himself as “devastated” after Miami rallied
from five down with 28 seconds left — circumstances under which NBA teams
have won 98.6 percent of the time over the past 15 seasons.

The team dinner was a step in that direction, with the players sharing not
just a meal but various war stories. For Parker, the game that came to mind
was the 2005 Eurobasket semifinal in which France blew a seven-point lead
with 47 seconds left against Greece. Then there were some of the bigger
heartbreaks of the Duncan era: Derek Fisher and 0.4 seconds in 2004, Ginobili
’s  Game 7 foul against Dirk Nowitzki in 2006, last year’s collapse in the
Western Conference finals.

Even those who weren’t around for all of those games could relate.

everybody has experienced a loss that really hurts,” Green said. “We have
to brush it off and move on. We have one game left. It’s not easy for any
team to do that, to bounce back from a game like that. But we have a veteran
group and I expect everybody to work past this and have a new attitude and a
new face and as a new team tomorrow.”

The Spurs will draw on their hard-earned wisdom to do so. Even though only
he, Duncan, and Ginobili remain from the team that beat Detroit in Game 7 of
the 2005 Finals, Parker hopes their veteran confidence will bolster the team’
s younger players. The Spurs also have the immediate experience of having
edged the Heat on their home floor two weeks ago in the series opener.

馬刺會從痛苦中學到的智慧吸取教訓.即使2005年在第7戰打敗Detroit的隊伍只剩Duncan

“We know we can beat them here,” Parker said. “We just have to do it
again.  If you told me before the season that we’ll be 3-3 in the Finals
against Miami, I think everybody on the team will sign up for it. We just
have to be positive and forget Game 6.  It was a great opportunity, but that’
s life. Everybody will be ready for tomorrow. If you’re not, you’re going
to regret it for the next 10, 15 years.”

And if all that still isn’t enough, perhaps breaking bread together was
enough to restore any broken spirits.

“The other option was to go back to our rooms and sit there by ourselves and
beat yourself up,” Duncan said. “It’s always good to be around teammates
and kind of get some stuff out in the open. We know what’s at stake. We know
what we have to  do. We know the opportunity we let slip through our fingers.
And we’re not going to hand our head and dwell on that. Tomorrow when the
ball goes up, we’ll all be ready.”
