Game 7: One more chance to win fifth title ‘all that matters’ to Spurs

MIAMI — They could have been on a charter jet somewhere over the Gulf of
Mexico, clothes still damp from the victory champagne, basking in the aura of
a fifth championship.

Instead, the Spurs spent the wee hours of Wednesday morning at an Italian
restaurant near downtown Miami, commiserating over a meal that quickly turned
into a group therapy session.

Over plates of pasta, players talked about all they had squandered in a
103-100 overtime loss to the Heat in Game 6 of the NBA Finals hours earlier,
swapped stories about hard times they had been through before, and vowed to
forget it all before Game 7.

“We’re not going to hang our head and dwell on it,” captain Tim Duncan
said. “When that ball goes up, we’ll all be ready.”

When the Spurs return Thursday night to the site of arguably the most
deflating defeat in franchise history, for a winner-take-all Game 7, their
fortunes will be dictated in large part by their own mental state.

five-point lead. Manu Ginobili was at the foul line. Heat fans fled for the
exits.

Somewhere backstage at American?Airlines Arena, the Larry O’Brien trophy was

Two missed free throws; one from Ginobili and one from Kawhi Leonard. Two
blown defensive rebounds with Duncan off the floor, leading to two
second-chance 3-pointers for Miami in regulation.

Ray Allen’s 3-pointer with 5.2 seconds to go sent the game to OT, where the
Spurs fumbled it away with turnovers on three consecutive possessions late.

“I feel like I am on the organ donor transplant list and there is an
accident in front of me,” Miami’s Shane Battier said. “We have been given
a new life.”

The end of Game 6 certainly felt like a train wreck to the Spurs, who were
still as stunned Wednesday afternoon as they were Tuesday night.

“I’m still down,” said Ginobili, who also had eight turnovers. “A blow
like that, it’s not easy to get back up.”

The Spurs have no choice but to try, though the odds are stacked against them.

There have been 17 Game 7s in the NBA Finals. The home team has won 14 of
them. The last time a road team won a Game 7 in this round: 1978, when the

The Spurs’ Big Three of Duncan, Ginobili and Tony Parker have been through
156 playoff games together. But never one like this.

馬刺三位主將(Duncan, Ginobili and Tony Parker)共同經歷過156場季後賽，但也未曾
經歷過任何一場得在客場比總冠軍戰最後一場。

The Duncan-era Spurs have won a Game 7 in the Finals — in 2005 against
Detroit — but that was at home. They have won a Game 7 on the road — in
2008 at New Orleans — but that was in the conference semifinals.

在Duncan時代，馬刺僅在2005主場跟活塞對打時，曾打到第七場。馬刺也曾經在2008年跟
New Orleans黃蜂隊對打時打到第七場，但當時僅是第二輪比賽。

“We’ve had a hell of a season, and we have an opportunity to win the
championship (Thursday) night,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “That’s
all that matters.”

For Miami, Thursday represents a chance to repeat as NBA champs, providing
further legitimization to the LeBron James era. For the Spurs, after the
manner in which they blew Game 6, Thursday is about being able to live with
themselves for the next 12 months.

Wednesday, the Spurs said all the right things.

play a Game 7 for the NBA championship, would you say yes or no?” Duncan
said. “We’d say yes.”

The way the Spurs arrived at this Game 7 was not a preferred part of the
package.

Losses such as Tuesday’s have the tendency to linger. In 2004, for instance,
the Spurs never recovered from Derek Fisher’s 0.4-second shot in Game 5 of
the Western Conference semifinals against the Lakers.

根據過往馬刺比賽紀錄，因為被逆轉而導致後續比賽失利並非沒有過，Fisher的0.4秒就
讓馬刺得到後續失利的結果。

After their Game 6 meltdown in Miami, the Spurs began the healing process
over dinner. It proved therapeutic.

“The other option is (for) a bunch of us to go back to our rooms and sit
there and beat yourself up,” Duncan said.

At dinner, Parker talked about his experience with the French national team
at the 2005 European championships. He lost to Greece at the buzzer in the
semifinal round, then faced a quick turnaround to face Spain in the
bronze-medal game.
“We bounced back and won,” Parker said.

The key, Parker said, was to stop thinking about the opportunity his team had
lost and instead focus on the opportunity that was still in front of them.

It is the same message Parker will preach now.

By the end of Thursday night, the Spurs will find out whether that
celebratory flight over the Gulf of Mexico has been cancelled.

Or simply postponed.

沒有人會想到是Manu
尤其是陪馬刺經歷過四次總冠軍的老球迷而言

Manu對老球迷而言，就像是過往每一場比賽都會出現「無法預期又重要」的關鍵火花
過往的總冠軍賽，Manu每一次持球就感覺會有70%發生好事
只是這百分比逐漸遞減，而今年遞減程度又更明顯
感覺現在Manu持球，以我而言，我心裡只會有30%覺得「會成功得分或取得罰球」

當然上一場情況更糟，八次失誤說明了一切

有時我在想，我到底在品味什麼?品味馬刺得到總冠軍嗎?也許不是...
也許我在品味的是馬刺這三位主將一直打到最後的感動
尤其是Duncan上一場上半場大發神威的表現，幾乎讓老球迷快流下眼淚
主因不是因為Duncan一整個主宰禁區，而是Duncan如此努力想穩住馬刺
只是下半場馬刺斷續的進攻跟手感，還有多次低級的失誤
就像是讓老球迷從美夢中頓然驚醒

如同上面文稿，Duncan跟Parker都講得很正確
「選擇遺忘，並且繼續為下一場奮鬥」
馬刺陪了我N年了，帶給我太多感動
陪他們在明天比賽中走完最後一場是我一名球迷唯一能作的 :)

不論是奪冠或失利，都選擇無悔地陪馬刺走完這一切。 :)
