[問題] 請教一個小小的SAS程式問題

小弟在跑SAS時，參考到一段程式碼如下:
   data assign;
     set assign;
     if month^= 1 then premonth= month - 1 ;
       ↑↑↑↑
以及
   data assign;
     set assign;
     if scusip^= lgscusip or premonth^= lgmonth then lgvwretd = . ;
        ↑↑↑↑             ↑↑↑↑↑

小弟對於以上兩段程式中的"^"此符號不解??
不曉得代表什麼意思~翻遍彭大的書也找不著~
所以特此來請求高手給予賜教~感謝!!
