15 Young NBA-Playoff Role Players Who Will Be Stars in 5 Years

The NBA playoffs are as star-studded this year as they've been in recent
memory. LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Paul Pierce and the list of future Hall of
Fame players goes on. Who is going to lead the NBA when those greats have
slowed down or retired?
This slideshow is going to focus on 15 young role players from this year's
playoff teams who will be stars in five years. Anyone on the roster for the
16 playoff teams is eligible for this list. Stats listed are per-game
averages for the 2011-12 regular season.

player for the Thunder, he plays a pivotal role. Harden will be a cornerstone
for an organization someday.
He's fearless going to the basket and has a knack for finishing at the basket
regardless of how big his defender is. He sports a ridiculous 125 offensive
rating for the year and won the 2011-12 NBA Sixth Man of the Year award.

Kenneth Faried started most of the games he appeared in but only averaged
22.5 minutes per game. His role was to bring energy and athleticism to a
Denver Nuggets team that is already very talented.
Faried secured the nickname "The Manimal" because of his remarkable athletic
ability and non-stop motor on the court. He averaged a double-double in the
playoffs and is only going to get better with some fundamental work.

Iman Shumpert had a bit of an uneven first year with the Knicks. He appeared
in 59 games but started just 35 of those. He's got a great defensive instinct
and put together some excellent games down the stretch to help the Knicks get
into the playoffs.
Shumpert tore his ACL in the playoffs, but at his age, there's no reason to
believe he won't be back as the same player. He'll need to improve his
offense, but it's never easy to put up good offensive numbers playing next to
volume shooters.

Rodrigue Beaubois had a couple of major holes in his game going into this
year, including being remarkably foul-prone for a guard. He averaged 5.5
fouls per 36 minutes but was able to cut that to just 3.1 this year.
His finishing and mid-range game needs some real work, but he's shown the
ability to make free-throws with a 84.1 percent average.
Some more mentoring from Jason Kidd would go a long way for Beaubois, and if
the rumors about Deron Williams prove to be false, he could be the point
guard of the future in Dallas.

Norris Cole started the season like a man possessed and appeared as if he
could be the point guard for the Miami Heat throughout the season. Instead,
his poor shooting and decision-making earned him a spot on the bench.
Cole is very raw but has the athletic ability to be an excellent point guard
at some point. He would benefit from a longer leash as he showed promise when
he was allowed to flow freely, but when coach Erik Spolestra reigned him in,
he struggled.

Paul George started every game for the Indiana Pacers, so it's a small
stretch to call him a role player, but he's definitely not a star just yet.
He's in a tremendous situation to break out and become a star on a team that
so badly needs one.
George showed the kind of improvement from his rookie year that any NBA coach
would drool over. He improved his three-point shooting, free-throw shooting,
rebounding, passing and defense. In addition, he showed his durability as he
didn't miss a single start.
