CALL FOR PAPERS
On 1-2 April 2011, the Department of History at Mississippi State University
is hosting the Fifth Regional IS/IS (International Security/Internal Safety)
Conference. We began this conference series in March 2007 when MSU hosted the
first event with sponsorship from the SMH. Since 2007, the conference has
been hosted by other universities in our region - Northwestern Louisiana
State University (2008), The University of Southern Mississippi (2009), and
the University of New Orleans/National World War II Museum (2010). Because
2011 is the fifth anniversary, we are bringing the IS/IS conference back to
Mississippi State University. We invite graduate students and faculty to
submit paper proposals on topics that focus on military history, diplomatic
history, political history, international relations, international security,
and internal safety.

We have two dynamic keynote speakers lined up - Professor Robert Citino from
the University of North Texas and Professor Dennis Showalter, past president
of the Society for Military History, from Colorado College. In addition, the
SMH is sponsoring the banquet, which will be held on Saturday, 2 April.

We encourage graduate student participation and hope to help graduate student
presenters who are coming from other institutions defray some of their
expenses. Blocks of rooms will be reserved at two local hotels - Microtel and
the Hampton Inn.

Submissions of individual paper and panel proposals will be considered.
Please submit a 250-word proposal and a one-page cv or a panel proposal
electronically to Mary Kathryn Barbier, Ph.D. at [e-mail] by
30 January 2011.
