動狀詞可分為不定詞、分詞和動名詞。它們的片語用法各有不同。
Built in the late 1800's, many (主詞) of the coastline's lighthouses
remain (動詞) standing today, having withstood the force of nature for
decades.
a. 本句many是當作不定代名詞使用，當作句子的主詞。
b. Built in the late 1800's 是一個分詞片語，由於過去分詞本身就有完成
或被動的意思，所以它的被動式being built或被動完成式 having been built
前面的being 或having been都可以省略掉。
c. 註：動名詞片語的被動式或被動完成式則是不可以省略的。
