Purpose of the discussion group
To discuss in detail the transcripts of talks given by the world's most
fascinating thinkers and doers because the power of ideas changes attitudes,
lives and ultimately, the world. These talks offer free knowledge and
inspiration from the world's most inspired thinkers, and an opportunity for
the community to engage with ideas and each other. People who participate in
these talks seek a deeper understanding of the world with the purpose to turn
that understanding into a better future for all mankind. These speakers come
from every discipline and culture – their common purpose is to spark deep
conversation and connections.
How the group will work:
People will be divided into small groups of 3 to discuss the given topic.
Each week group members will rotate to different groups [of 3]. This enables
greater / faster improvement in English language proficiency and confidence
to speak/express opinions. I will facilitate all groups to ensure people get
an equal amount of speaking time.

Friday 11th December 7.15pm – 9.15pm
Venue:
A restaurant off Shida Road [Taipower Building MRT station exit 3]. I will
give details to people who confirm their attendance.
Cost:
NTD500 [at this venue, it includes a drink, e.g. refillable tea

interested in joining what promises to be a wonderful discussion group.
Broader directives of the Group:
Vision: To create an opportunity for people to debate in-depth topics of
interest; to rekindle our passion to learn, and to connect great people with
great ideas.
Mission: To inspire hope in what’s possible.
Goal: To bring people together to discuss these fascinating, inspiring talks
on a weekly basis.
Main strategy: Participants will choose a talk to discuss every two weeks.
Strategic direction: The transcript of the chosen speech will be emailed to
group participants one week in advance to facilitate preparation for the
meeting. Useful language structures and phrases will be marked up on the
script.
How is this discussion group DIFFERENT to Toastmasters?
This is an interactive group discussion, offering participants the
opportunity to:

[b] develop true listening skills,
[c] learn from others, and
[d] connect with like-minded people.
