Taipei's Yeu-Tzuoo Wang progressed to the second round after Argentine
Mariano Zabaleta was forced to retire due to cramp in the third set with
Wang well in control at 6-2 7-5 4-1.
It was the first time the 20-year-old, who at 103 was ranked 18 places below
Zabaleta, had won a Grand Slam match after bowing out in the first round
of his only two previous Grand Slam appearances at last year's Australian Open
and the 2004 Wimbledon championships.
However, fellow Taipei player Yen-Hsun Lu offered little resistance in
losing to Italy's Daniele Braccali 6-1 7-6 6-2.
