The model resolution increased from T159L24 to T239L30, where T : represents the number of spectral waves the model can resolve and L represents : the number of vertical levels. Successful parallel-ops testing took place : during July and August 2002. Testing confirmed the new model resolution provides : a positive impact on the prediction of low level winds, precipitation, and : tropical cyclone tracks in the tropics and some positive impact in the : mid-latitudes.
