[情報] OuikSCAT快掛了~

今早發現已經運轉達十年(超齡五年了)的QuikSCAT海表面風場衛星,
衛星天線開始停擺嚕~全球資料掃描區域少了一大片。

稍早來自NASA JPL的訊息:

Several hours ago, shortly past 7:00Z today (23Nov), telemetry received from
 QuikSCAT indicates that the antenna rotation rate has dropped to zero
and remains at zero.  The motor remains powered.  The system can be
operated safely in this state for an indefinite period. The operations
team will be meeting later this morning.

之前美國NHC就已經提到這顆衛星如果掛點掉對氣象預報的嚴重性,
尤其對廣大資料稀少的洋面。但是好像礙於經費,目前完全沒有
替代的衛星能用,尤其是風向的反演。
衛星已經相當老舊了，即使天線重新運轉,資料準度和品質必大幅
度減低。或許我們也將永遠失去她嚕!!

QuikSCAT小檔案:1999年6月升空,離地球800km的繞極軌道衛星,主要是
取代1997年6月發射失敗的NSCAT衛星。其微波雷達swath範圍達1800km
可在各種天氣和雲層之下掃描全球洋面近表面十米的風向和風速,
提供每日兩筆的資料。
