Mary Pierce, 34, pursuing pro tour comeback

Nearly three years after she ruptured her left anterior cruciate ligament,
two-time Grand Slam singles champion Mary Pierce is pursuing a high-intensity
daily workout regimen in the hopes of returning to professional tennis

Pierce, a two-time Grand Slam singles champ, last played on the WTA tour in
October 2006. Pierce, now 34, was chasing down a forehand from Vera Zvonareva
when she suffered the knee injury at the Generali Ladies Linz tournament in
Austria in October 2006. This video shows the Frenchwoman screaming and
writhing in pain on the court after the knee buckled (warning: it’s hard to
watch).

兩屆大滿貫得主，今年34歲的PIERCE上個WTA賽事是在06年十月的林茲女網賽。她在追趕

Pierce underwent surgery three months later, but it wasn’t until this
January that she began pursuing her comeback in earnest. She’s been working
out at Bollettieri’s in Bradenton, Fla., under the guidance of Yutaka
Nakamura, the academy’s director of tennis performance.

受傷三個月後PIERCE動了手術，但直到今年一月她才開始積極地嘗試復出。她在美國
佛州Bollettieri網球學院接受訓練。

"When an athlete suffers that severe of an injury, the body shuts down and
doesn’t listen to the brain. So we pretty much had to start from zero," he
said. "But now she can jog naturally, so you couldn’t tell by watching her
that she was injured." said Nakamura.

Bollettieri的指導員中村說"當一個運動員受到這麼嚴重傷害時，身體會停擺不聽大腦使喚。
所以我們幾乎是得從零開始。不過她現在能夠自然地跑步，看不太出來受過傷。"


The news that Pierce was working out and hoping to work her way back to the
pro tour was first reported earlier this week on Nick Bollettieri's blog.
"Playing professionally is something I still want to do and something that I
think I still can do," Pierce is quoted as saying there. (Pierce declined to
be interviewed for this story; "she wants to be private at this time during
this stage of the training and not make a big deal of it," Nakamura said.)

PIERCE追求復出的消息稍早在這禮拜首先在Nick Bollettieri的部落格登出。上面引用
PIERCE的話:"打職業網球仍然是我想做的，也是我認為我可以做到的。"

PIERCE婉拒接受訪談，現階段她只想要保有隱私，不想在這消息上大作文章。

He said time will tell whether it’s realistic to expect the 1995 Australian
Open champion and 2000 French Open champion to return to form. "It’s hard to
say, and I think Mary knows that as well, but I give her a lot of respect
that she’s trying," Nakamura said, adding that he’s only seen the kind of
intense commitment Pierce has shown him over the past seven months in one
other client—Maria Sharapova.

中村又說時間會證明PIERCE是否能夠回復狀態，一切都很難說，PIERCE也有自知，但是
她過去七個月來所表現出的積極投入態度，是他在另一位客戶上身上也看到 - 莎拉波娃。
