納達爾宣布退出台維斯盃準決賽

    西班牙網球明星納達爾(Rafael Nadal)今天(3日)表示，他因為膝蓋受傷，所以宣布退
出下個月西班牙與美國的台維斯盃(Davis Cup)準決賽。

    現年26歲的納達爾說，他真的希望能夠完全康復，回到球場上，享受網球時光。但是
他想到還有許多年的網球生涯，覺得自己的膝蓋應該要多休息。

    納達爾接著表示，他將會完全復元地返回球場，好好的打球。

    男網世界排名第三的納達爾，自從6月28日在溫布頓網賽第二輪，敗給捷克選手路索爾
(Lukas Rosol)之後，就不曾參加過任何比賽，包括目前正在舉行的美國網球公開賽。

    台維斯盃將於9月14日到16日舉行準決賽。

    西班牙網球聯盟(Spanish tennis federation，RFET)醫生路易茲柯托羅
(Angel Ruiz-Cotorro)8月曾指出，納達爾的膝傷名為「霍華氏症」(Hoffa’s syndrome)，
是一種膝關節發炎病症。

Nadal out of Davis Cup semifinal

     Rafael Nadal will not play in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas semifinal
against the USA due to the injuries that have kept him out of the Olympic Games
and the US Open.

     The Spaniard has a partial tear of the patella tendon at the distal pole
of the patella plus an inflammation of the Hoffa’s fat pad of his left knee and
will not be playing any tennis for the next two months.

    “I have missed the Olympics and the US Open in the last few weeks, two of
the most important tournaments of the year and that I really wanted to play”
Nadal said, “I really want to be back competing and enjoying the tennis tour,
but I have many years in front of me and my knee needs some rest. I will be back
when I have no pain and able to compete with guarantee.”

     The world No. 3 has been receiving medical treatment consisting of specific
medication, physical therapy and a progressive program of rehabilitation and
muscular potentiation.

     Nadal sounded upbeat when talking about his injury and will not have to
have major surgery on his knee. “I feel better after the meeting with my
doctors and happy knowing that the evolution of the past weeks has been
positive and surgery has been avoided. I will continue to work with the plan
my doctors have established to be able to compete as soon as possible in the
right conditions.”

     The Mallorcan was quick to thank all of his fans and everyone giving him
support. “I would also like to thanks all for the support I’m receiving these
days.”

     The Davis Cup semifinal between Spain and USA will take place at the
Parque Hermanos Castro in Gijon from 14 to 16 September.
