The Guardian
It's Harold Pinter as you've never seen him before: from tomorrow,
a number of private documents belonging to the Nobel prize-winning
playwright - including an unpublished memoir, Queen of All the Fairies -
will go on show at the British Library. The show, called
His Own Domain: Harold Pinter, A Life in Theatre,
comes from Pinter's archive, which the library snapped up for more
than ￡1m last month. It includes correspondence with Arthur Miller,
David Mamet and Samuel Beckett, and sketches of the
50-shilling tailors and barbers in the Hackney of Pinter's youth.
According to curator Jamie Andrew: "His private letters and memoir
will come as something of a surprise to those familiar with Pinter's
normal pared-down and oblique style. In his letters with literary
greats, we definitely see a different side of him."
