After holding training camp in such exotic ports as St. Thomas, Mankato and
Collegeville in their first 18 years, the Timberwolves will go global by
opening their preseason in Istanbul, Turkey, as part of the NBA's four-team,
six-city Europe Live tour this fall.
The Wolves will hold training camp in Istanbul from Oct. 1-5, then play Efes
Pilsen Istanbul of the Turkish League on Oct. 6 at the Abdi Ipekci Sports
Hall. It will the first game played by an NBA team in Turkey.
Then Kevin Garnett and crew will travel to London to continue workouts before
facing the Boston Celtics on Oct. 10 at the 02, the city's new NBA-style
arena.
"We are extremely honored and excited to have been chosen by the NBA," said
Wolves President Chris Wright, a native of England. "As evidenced by the
increasing number of international players in the NBA, basketball is truly a
global game."
