Editor's Note: We're back for an offseason edition of the Mail Bag. We
appreciate your taking the time to think Wolves and write about it. Remember
that your Wolves hold the 7th spot in the deep, talented 2007 NBA Draft on
June 28. Keep writing us to ask about anything related to our team, players
or organization.
Write more questions here.
Q: Given the news about Kobe Bryant, is there any possibility at all that the
Wolves could make a run to pair up KG and Kobe? It would be a serious 1-2
punch that could contend for a title, given some solid role players around
them.
-- Dave, Willows, CA
A: We've received numerous inquires about Kobe, as has every team in the NBA.
Bryant is arguably the best player in the entire league, and there isn't any
team who wouldn't immediately become better with Bryant wearing their jersey.
Alas, no one knows if Kobe will or will not get traded, and there are only so
many teams with the right amount of money and contracts to attract a Bryant
trade. He has a no-trade clause in his contract, as well, that he can use if
he doesn't like a potential deal. The answer to your question? No one knows.
Q: Will the wolves consider drafting Miles Tarver this year?
-- Luke Z., Orono, MN
A: You're of course referring to the 1990s Gopher forward? While we, uh,
can't talk about specific players, as we'll reiterate several times in this
Mail Bag, we'll go on a limb this time and strongly suggest that Tarver won't
be our guy.
Q: Is KG going to Phoenix for Amare (Stoudemire) or is it all a rumor?
-- Derek, Phoenix, Arizona
A: That's just speculation, this time courtesy of ESPN's Bill Simmons. In
fact, nearly every "rumor" you hear is straight speculation from reporters
and pundits. It's of course not in the best interest for NBA teams to leak
trade information to anyone.
Q: Please do not draft Noah for any reason. Please trade Mike James for a
big, even if the big sucks. Please trade Ricky Davis for another big, and if
you can trade Yaric's + Hassel's contracts for a shorter contracts, even if
you "lose the trade". Adonel foyle+Patrick obryant a MPLS prospect. Nazhar
Mohaumed or Dan Gruzuac who ever, just balance out the roster and draft Cory
Brewer if posible. Thankyou.
-- Brady J., Minneapolis
A: Done. Anything else?
Q: Hello, I'm of course a huge T-Wolves fan from France. KG is my master, and
I love all Wolves players. But I would talk about the draft. I suggest you if
you had the opportunity to get Joakim Noah, because he's a pretty good
defender and has fabulous energy on the court. Think at this. Bye. PS: Thanks
Ricky Davis for his great season, he has to be kept in the team next year.
-- Raphal, Tours, France
A: Raphal, good of you to write us from the Eiffel Tower. We already promised
Brady that we wouldn't draft Noah, but we'll still consider your opinion.
Does KG know that he's your master? We'll pass on your thanks to Ricky.
Q: Hey there is PG by the name of Josh Gilchrist, he didn't get a hot review
from the coach at Maryland but, he had a nice package. Did you consider him a
scouting option?
-- Charles, Va Beach, Virginia
A: What up Charles? Suffice it to say that our basketball operations staff
considers EVERY player that's eligible for the draft. Our staff has been
scouring the world for prospects that might help the Timberwolves, though we
aren't able to discuss specific guys. Unless you want to pay the $25,000 fine?
Q: How does one get invited to the predraft camp in Chicago? If I have mad
hops but didn't play beyond high school ball any way I can get a tryout there?
-- Robby, Los Angeles, CA
A: Before we get down to business, how high are we talking regarding that
vertical leap, Robby?
Q: Hola amigos les escribo desde argentina soy fan de los wolves please
contactensen conmigo a mi mail seria un honor ya que estamos no tan lejos un
abrazo y go wolves go exequiel marijanovic from argentina espero vuestra
respuesta
-- Marijanovic Exequiel, Cordoba Capital, Argentina
A: Can someone please translate this for us? Carlos Arroyo, can you hear us
in Orlando? Help us out so we can get back to Marijanovic Exequiel (cool
name). It looks like he's basically saying, "Hi friends, I'm a fan from
Argentina of the Wolves, my arms and legs support the team go team." Is that
close?
Q: From reading between the lines in some of the articles here on
timberwolves.com I've already got a pretty good idea who's at the top of the
list for the first round (at this moment, before private workouts and the
lottery that is) so my question is about the second round: given we've got
the 10th pick, which isn't bad; from what you've read do you think you might
get a player that might affect the team as much as Craig could last year. I
know there are a lot of factors involved but how are your views: more
positive or more negative? I'm hoping for a pure PG that can get things
organized a bit when need be. Keep up the hard work by the way; we're behind
you here in Belgium ;)
-- Wim, Koksijde, Belgium
A: We can always count on a question or six from you Wim. Well, congrats,
because you're officially our biggest European fan as of right now. If any
other Europeans take issue with this, please write in your response as to why
you're the clearly superior choice. Just know that Wim will immediately write
17 e-mails in stark contrast. As far as this question goes: Any team would be
lucky to get a second rounder that contributes as much as Smith did last
season.
Q: Which basketball team will be the hardest to beat this season?
-- Leah, Dell Rapids, SD
A: I think you have to stick with the soon-to-be champion San Antonio Spurs.
While Phoenix and Dallas will certainly contend, until someone shows that
they can beat the Spurs consistently they have to be the favorite.
