LUKE ANDERSON
Q: On what's like to workout for his home team, after growing up in Eagan and
playing for Mankato State University:
A: It's a dream. I got a call last week from my agent telling me that I had a
tryout with (the Wolves) on the 18th. From there I knew I had to work real
hard to get in shape, and I just worked on my shooting, and it's a dream come
true just to be on this court and to put this T-shirt on.
Q: On the differences he noticed in working out with Division-I players:
A: It's a little bit different. The competition, I mean everybody's at the
same level that you are, or they're at a higher level and I'm trying to get
to the level that they're at. One thing that I noticed is just the strength.
They're a little stronger, a little bit quicker and more athletic, so it was
a good gaining point for me and I learned a lot.
Q: On his shooting:
A: That's the strength that carries me, that is my shooting, and that's the
thing I've worked on and hopefully I came in here, shot the ball well and
they saw that.
Q: On his performance at today's workout:
A: I thought I did OK. I could have shot the ball a little bit better during
the one-on-one drills, but when we were doing just the shooting drill I
thought that I shot the ball really well.
Q: On his future basketball plans:
A: I don't know. Hopefully this will open the door for more opportunities to
play at a higher level. That's what my goal is, to play in the states or
overseas somewhere, so hopefully this just opened doors for more
opportunities.
Q: On whether he has any specific plans for the immediate future:
A: Not yet. Hopefully they liked what they saw; hopefully I can get picked up
on some other team, but we'll see what happens from here.
Q: On whether this was his first NBA tryout:
A: Yes it is.
Q: On whether he has any other NBA workouts scheduled:
A: As of right now, no I do not.
Q: On his feelings as he made his drive to Target Center for today's workout:
A: One thing that I thought all weekend is to not put too much pressure on
myself. Really, I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. So that was my
mindset today, and I felt like I stuck to that. I didn't try to do something
that I don't do. I just tried to stick to my game plan, which is to shoot the
ball well.
Q: On the aspects of his game he'd like to work:
A: Just my leg strength. I think that's a big key. Just to get my legs
stronger; just to stay down in the defensive stance; just so I can body up
with the bigger players.
ADAM HALUSKA
Q: On his workout with the Wolves today:
A: I feel pretty good, just getting back in the Midwest. I've had a bunch of
workouts out west, so it was good to get, kind of, back home; see things that
are familiar. It's just an honor to come here and have a workout with the
Wolves.
Q: On where he's worked out and where he still has to go before draft day:
A: I've been to quite a few places: New York, the Nets. I flew out to L.A.
and had a workout out there and then I went up to Portland, down to Golden
State, up to Seattle and now I'm here. I'm kind of half way through the
workouts now and I've got a big stretch coming up down here the next week or
two.
Q: On the things he thinks he needs to do to draw interest to NBA teams:
A: Well, I've definitely got to be a shooter. I've got to show that I can
knock down that NBA three and be an asset defensively, too. I've got to go
out there and use my athleticism and bring whatever the team needs. If it's
energy; if it's someone coming in and making shots when they're told to;
that's going to be my role.
Q: On how important the NBA workouts are to him:
A: I think they're real important, just to be able to showcase some of the
things that maybe they didn't see at the college game. To be able to show
that, yeah, you can knock down a three-point shot, or you've got a little bit
more in your game one-on-one or coming off a ball screen. So, things that I
didn't do a lot in college I've got to be able to show that I can do that.
RANDY WITTMAN
Q: On how each workout prepares the team that much more for the NBA Draft
June 28:
A: We've had a lot of guys in here, both for the seventh spot and for the
41st spot. So you get an understanding of the guys when they come in here.
Five-on-five settings is ultimately what you're going to judge these guys on,
but this gives you a little bit of an understanding of their basketball IQ
and their footwork and fundamentals.
Q: On Carl Landry and his potential likeness to Craig Smith:
A: Little bit, little undersized, but strong and has the ability to do things
down low, which he did at Purdue for all those years. We also want to see
what he can do facing the basket a little bit and shooting the ball.
Q: On how to choose the right undersized big man in this year's draft,
because there are lots:
A: You've got to be able to show you can do other things ... not be limited
to that size, just being a low-post, back-to-the-basket guy. That you've got
to be able to put the ball on the floor a dribble or two and create things
that way.
Q: On what he thought about Luke Anderson's workout:
A: Well, I thought he came in and did a nice job. He's got a great stroke on
him, can shoot the ball and came in here and played well against these guys.
This is always a tough setting to come into, especially for the first time,
and he matched up in a one-on-one, two-on-two setting like this, but he
competed very hard and he did a nice job.
Q: On Haluska:
A: Adam's a guy, again, that had a good career at Iowa, played four years,
can shoot the ball. ... He's got to now show that he can put the ball on the
floor and get to the basket or create scoring opportunities, and I think
that's going to determine if he can continue to develop at where he ends up.
