[外電] Wolves go with a Gator; Garnett stays

Finally, after a week of smoke, some fire:
The newest Timberwolf is Corey Brewer, an athletic, versatile -- and, yes,
fiery -- forward with a championship pedigree and enough character references
to fill a bunch of resumes. And one of his new teammates is still, at least
for now, Kevin Garnett.

經過一星期的一堆煙霧彈後，
灰狼選了有運動力、多功能又激情的佛大小前鋒Corey Brewer，
而至少KG在現在還是他的隊友之一！

Oh, the rumor mill was rolling. Los Angeles. Phoenix. Atlanta. Late in the
day, Charlotte. There were rumors of two-team trades as well as three- and
four-team trades that would have had people and picks traveling all over the
country, rumors that gathered steam as draft time approached.

Rumor滿天飛，湖人、太陽、老鷹甚至山貓，從兩隊交易到多隊交易，
隨著選秀將屆，紛至沓來。

But in the end the Wolves stayed put with Garnett and grabbed Brewer, the
University of Florida forward who brings with him two NCAA championship
rings, the ability to blanket both guards and forwards on the defensive end
and an offensive game that continues to improve but is already clutch.

且選了Brewer這位冠軍隊搖擺人，

"We couldn't be more excited," Wolves vice president of basketball operations
Kevin McHale said during a brief news conference before rushing back to
prepare for the second round. "He is a great glue guy, great chemistry, great
character. You can't say enough good things about him."

"我們實在是太期待他了" McHale說 "他是個大鎖、他會對球隊帶來化學效應、
他有非常好的籃球能力。實在是沒有辦法用筆墨來形容他的好！"

Of course, before McHale could say any more about Brewer, he was asked about
Garnett. As in, what about those rumors? Those are fed by you guys, he said.

So will Garnett be with the team come October?

"Kevin is a member of our team right now," McHale said. "I assume he'll be a
member of the team this fall."

That's exactly what Brewer was hoping, too. The 21-year-old grew up
patterning his game after Scottie Pippin and admiring Garnett.

Brewer也這麼希望著，他從小模仿Pippen打球、崇拜KG。

"I can't wait to get there," Brewer said from New York. "They've got some
great young guys -- [Craig] Smith, [Randy] Foye. Hopefully KG is still there."

Not everybody thought Brewer would still be there at No. 7. When it was --
after Milwaukee took Chinese forward Yi Jianlian at No. 6 -- it was a
no-brainer.

不少人認為Brewer不會掉到第7位，但當公鹿選了可能拒絕入隊的易建聯後，
事情變得很單純很簡單。

Brewer wore a blue collar growing up in Tennessee and he kept it on in
Florida, where he was almost always asked to handle the other team's best
player on defense. Now he gets to don a blue uniform in the NBA, a dream he
deferred a year ago in the quest for another college title.

The act of deferring that gratification turned out to be the most gratifying
thing of all.

"Last year was a tough situation for me," he said. "My family does need the
money -- did need the money. I just felt ... My mom and dad said be happy. I
wanted to mature as a player. I'm glad I went back to school."

In his third season with the Gators Brewer improved his scoring average (from
12.7 to 13.2) and his shooting percentage. He perfected his role as the
Gators' shutdown perimeter defender and won another title.

他完美扮演好他防守關門者的角色，讓球隊贏得冠軍。

He figures to be able to contribute defensively right away with the Wolves,
though his role is quite similar to current Wolves player Trenton Hassell. In
some ways Brewer was surprised to have been picked by the Wolves, considering
he didn't feel he had a great workout with the team. He worked out on the
same day as Florida State's Al Thornton, who was a monster that day. Brewer?
He has just completed a nonstop run of workouts all over the country and he
was tired.

Well, it all worked out just like McHale wanted. Actually, McHale was
impressed with all four of the Florida players the Wolves had in for
workouts. They acted like winners and played like a team to win. Brewer was
one of three players McHale said he liked and expected to perhaps be
available at No. 7. The others were Georgetown's Jeff Green (who went No. 5)
and Florida State's Al Thornton, who was impressive when he worked out the
same day Brewer did.

似乎一切都跟著 McHale 的如意算盤走，
他對四位來灰狼做workout的佛大球員都印象深刻，
他們表現的就是個贏家，他們有對勝利的執著，
而 Brewer 是 McHale 在第七順位想選的3位球員之一，

But Brewer -- the second of three Gators taken with the first nine picks --
was the one that landed with the Wolves.

而最後選了Brewer。

"He plays offense like [Detroit's] Rip Hamilton, coming off screens," McHale
said. "He does a lot of little things that go unnoticed. He knows how to use
screens, make passes. He makes plays."

"他在進攻端的表現像是活塞隊的Rip，隊友一個掩護他就找出空隙"McHale說

Especially when it matters. Brewer finished his college career by being named
the most outstanding player of the NCAA Final Four, and he leaves Florida as
the school's all-time leading scorer in NCAA tournament play.

"When the game is on the line, that's when you have to step up," Brewer said.
"I step up when it really matters."
