AUBURN HILLS -- It's official now.
The Pistons have fired Flip Saunders after three seasons in which he led the
team to the Eastern Conference finals.

No replacement has been named, but a press conference announcing Michael
Curry as the new coach is expected sometime this week.

The Pistons have fired coach Flip Saunders, despite three trips to the
Eastern Conference finals in his three seasons.

In a statement released this morning, president of basketball operations Joe
Dumars said: “Decisions like this are difficult to make, especially with the
success we have had throughout the last three regular-seasons. However, at
this time, I feel it is necessary to make a change. I thank Flip for his hard
work and dedication, but it is time for a new voice to lead our team.”

Saunders had one year left on his contract.
