Jonny Flynn, the sixth overall pick in the NBA draft and the Timberwolves'
second selection (after fifth overall pick and fellow point guard Ricky
Rubio), has been taking part in the Wolves' summer league games in Las Vegas.
Here is Flynn ...
On how the summer camp in Las Vegas has gone for him: "I'm definitely
learning the NBA game, just learning the ins and out of the NBA game. It's so
much different from the college game. The rules. The terminology."
On goals he has set as a rookie: "I would definitely love to be one of the
top rookies in the league. I would love to make the rookie/sophomore
(all-star) game. One goal is to get more wins than last year. Anything I can
do to help the team would be great."
On whether he would like to see fifth overall pick Ricky Rubio playing beside
him: "That's something I can't handle (because it's not up to him to decide
Rubio's fate). If he were to come in and play beside me, we'd be a better
team. He's going to make our team that much better. I'd love to have him by
my side, making me better."
On who would be the Wolves' point guard, him or Rubio: "You see the NBA going
to two point guards at the same time. I think we would just be labeled as
guards. I don't think we'd have a position."
On whether he is wondering who will be hired to coach the Wolves: "I won't
say it doesn't matter. It does matter. It's good he (president of basketball
operations David Kahn is) taking a while to interview candidates. He's looking into the right person for the job. I think
he'll make the right decision."
On whether he would like to advise Kahn about whom to hire: "Not really. If
he comes and asks me, I'd tell him. But he's been around the league a while,
so he'll make the right choice."
On where he plans to live in Minnesota: "I think I'll live downtown. As a
rookie, you have to be way ahead of everything. I want to avoid any traffic.
There are no excuses in the NBA. It'll definitely be somewhere downtown in
the beginning. If I get a second contract, then I'll buy a house."
