David Kahn says Timberwolves aren't trying to trade Al Jefferson

Timberwolves president of basketball operations David Kahn strongly refuted a
report Monday that he offered forward Al Jefferson to Indiana in a trade for
forward Danny Granger, a four-year veteran who is the Pacers' leading scorer.

Kahn described the report by Yahoo! Sports as "total fabrication."

"I have not offered Al to anybody," Kahn said while traveling with the Wolves
on the team's four-game road trip. "As I've stated before, my preference is
to go through the season and continue to evaluate the team before we do
anything dramatic."

Kahn said he and Pacers vice president of basketball operations Larry Bird
met for "about 20 minutes" between shootarounds Friday morning at Target
Center, but Kahn said the two never talked about Jefferson or Granger. Bird
was in the Twin Cities for the Wolves-Pacers game Friday night.

The Yahoo! Sports report cited unnamed "league sources" that claimed the
Wolves were trying to trade Jefferson to the Pacers.

Jefferson, 25, was averaging 17.8 points and 9.1 rebounds heading into Monday
night's game at Denver. The 6-foot-9 Granger averages 24.4 points per game
but has missed 16 games this season because of a torn right plantar fascia.

Kahn said he planned to meet with Jefferson and reassure him that the Wolves
are not attempting to trade him. Kahn also has spoken to Jefferson's agent,
Jeff Schwartz.

The report claimed that one reason Kahn is looking to trade Jefferson is
because of "chemistry issues" between Jefferson and second-year forward Kevin Love. Kahn denied any problems
between the two forwards, who are regarded as the strength of the team.
"It was very upsetting to see that Al and Kevin are at odds," Kahn said.
"That's totally untrue. We're all very upset about this today."
